Subject: Michael Moore and his foot
On tonites Oscars, Michael Moore producer of the Columbine movie started in about his views on the war. He was boo'ed and removed from the stage...Thoughts?? Comments??
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
I think he really looked like a fool.
I wonder if the other nominees that he dragged up there with him had any idea that he was going to do that.

I agree.
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
Michael Moore talks equal amounts of truth and bullsh**. If he stops speaking one, I imagine he'll stop speaking the other.
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
Well, considering it was Micheal Moore, he didn't act any different than I expected he would if given the opportunity to speak.
And yes, I agree, he did make himself look like a fool.
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
So what did you expect from a man who publicly hates Conservatives and who mocks bug business? Michael Moore has the right to say anything he wants, even if it is ignorant and self-righteous. But I am offened by his remark that he speaks for all Americans. >:(

you mean you didn't know that once you become a celebrity you automatically become an expert on everything from foreign policy to gun laws?
(I was being sarcastic, obviously)
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
Michael Moore did more to hurt his cause than he could possibly realize. This is the Oscars, this is not a political rally. If he wanted to get a point accross, he should have used humor and kept it light.
That was an incredebly stupid thing to do. He made all us pro-peace people look like idiots.
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
Didn't see it, but I wish I had!!
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
I fell asleep & missed it, so if anyone finds a link where I can view this, please let me know! :D
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
Well I didn't know who Michael Moore was before this but I sure do now !
What a dipsh*t ! I don't care which way he leans on the particular subject, but I agree, you shouldn't be highjacking an event specifically intended for other purposes just to use as a soapbox for your own views.
In relation to some of the above comments about was it newsworthy enough to re-show....over here it was HUGE ! They showed that before showing Nicole Kidman being announced as winner (and given the last few weeks has been nothing but pro-Aussie hype about Nicole's chances - ::) - and once again, who gives a rats...) that is saying something.
I loved the irony when the band started playing really loudly to drown him out ! ;D

Bug business - that must be the software industry, right ;-)
On topic: from what I've heard of Michael Moore, it would have been a lot more of a surprise if he *hadn't* started spouting off from the stage...

I am surprised more of them didn't spout off. Glad but surprised.
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
I especially liked Steve Martin's comment:
"The Teamsters are outside helping Mr. Moore into the trunk of his limo!"
Priceless.

If you've read his books and seen his documentaries, you'd see why it was only inevitable he would say something like that. As for his comments and the reactions it got: Nothing new.

He definately made us pro-peace folks look TERRIBLE. Most conservatives secretly love a guy like Michael Moore, because he's frequently says some really wacky things that makes everyone who wants peace or are liberal look like bad. He's like a reverse Pat Buchanan. Many in the left love it when Buchanan gets up there and rambles on with his neo-facisist ideas---because then it makes all conservatives look like morons.

Exactly. He's a walking contradiction. While my political views are somewhat middle of the road, when I see someone so far to the left(him) or right(Rush Limbaugh), it doesn't do much other than annoy me. At least Al Franken is funny.
I didn't even watch the Oscars because in the grand scheme of things, the glamor and fashion of the event don't mean a squirt of pi** right now. Why wasn't Moore wearing his stupid baseball cap anyways?

I didn't watch them because I didn't care to hear ANYONE's political opinion. The one time I did switch, near the end, what did I hear? Adrian Brody's little "speech". I do have to give him credit, though, he got the orchestra to quit ;)

They should have drowned him out sooner. I guess they were shocked for a few before reacting.
It was awful.
I'll paste this comment I made from the other awards thread:
What an idiot! >:(
He gives protesters a bad name. He made a spectacle of himself and he used an awful and incorrect choice of words. It was out-of-line and inappropriate, especially considering
some of the troops were watching. I'm sure they'd disagree their fighting a "fictitious" war. He didn't deserve the opportunity he received at the academy awards. He pissed all over the academy by tarnishing the ceremony with low class behavior. I lost whatever measure of respect I had for that guy.
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
I was disgusted by his display. Like I said in the Oscar post, even Susan Sarandon just flashed a little peace sign and she is usually v. vocal. I don't equate all others who oppose the war with Michael Moore, I have sense enough to know the difference between the monomaniac and a person expressing their views.

You know, when he & his little gang first went up on stage, I was thinking, "That lady looks like an idiot wavin that trophy around..." Not so much now....not so much....
She only made herself look like an idiot by standing next to Michael Moore.

Blah blah blah wooords...
... and then I get to the part of "alienate"...
To hell with the rest, I still agree with the guy 8) Don't give a crap about who's alienating who.

Well, she IS his wife (I'm pretty sure). I would hope my wife would be supportive of me if I won an award (when I get one).

You're being snippy and you don't even know for a fact, with 100% certainty whether she's his wife or not.
How is anyone supposed to know that, anyway?
What's more, Who cares?
Subject: Re: Michael Moore and his foot
I know he has a wife. He has mentioned her in his books. I've never seen his wife before. That woman was sitting with him, I assumed that was his wife. It might have been his sister, but I'm pretty sure it was his wife.
I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure.
You're right, Hairspray. It doesn't matter.

Yes, we can all treat opinions like that, but please understand that it is "un-American" (literally) to pass up an opportunity to push your cause or sell your product.
That's what Americans get for elevating actors and athletes instead of thinkers. We bankroll crappy movies, make bad novels into bestsellers, bury our best writers and artists, and as a result we complain about the airheads at the top of the game; hey, we put them there. Don't like Harrison Ford's environmental midlife crisis? Don't buy a ticket to his next film.

Davester, your first point I don't agree with, I think decorum is great to exersize, there is times that are more right than others to voice ones opinions. Ever attended a funeral of someone you didn't care for? When everyone is expousing how great a person the deceased was I doubt you countered their points with your own feelings of the cranky ol' ba$tard. ;)
However your second point more than makes up for my disagreement with your first. You hit that ugly-monkey on the head. :-/
