Subject: Our stupid reporters...
When will the stupid media reporters learn that they can't ask stupid questions like "Sec Rumsfeld, when will the so-called shock and awe invasion begin?" and "where are the ground forces located and where are they trying to get to?"
And whats worse is I saw Dan Blather and Peter Jennings actually saying they were frustrated and upset that the Genreals and Administration isn't releasing sensitive information to the news outlets.
I applaud the efforts to not release sensitive info to the news. They would probably just screw it up anyway.

I probably said it before, but this reminds me of that SNL episode during Gulf War I when the reporters were asking the army spokesperson where all the troops and deployments were, as well as dates of surprise attacks ;)
In a related story, I was thinking about that Star Trek episode where Harvey Mudd has Kirk and crew trapped on a planet with a bunch of androids and Spock has to tell the head android that he's "lying" even though Kirk told the android that Spock always lies...so maybe if Rummy lied to the press corps and they published the lies, then one of two things can happen:
A) Iraqi intelligence believes the lies and they get their @$$es kicked thoroughly because the USA gets the drop on them through Rummy's good lyin'
OR
B) Iraqi intelligence ponders this dilemma until their heads explode, which is just as good.
:D

;D With tongue in cheek let me suggest that its the medias' job to ask stupid questions that they know will not get answered so as to avoid asking intelligent questions that our fearless leaders wouldn't dare answer. That's how they i. waist our time, and 2. keep us in the dark, while pretending to inform us. Its a variation on the bait and switch game.

I look at it this way: It's the reporter's job to ask questions, and it's the official's job to protect sensitive information. A reporter has a right to ask anything.
Which makes me wonder WHY, when an official says "I'm not going to talk about X," WHY will a reporter invariably ask "What about X ?"

It's just this scenario which makes Don Rumsfeld so fun to watch.

oh yes, I remember that very well.
If memory serves, Kevin Nealon was the person answering the questions.
As funny as that sketch was, sadly enough, it is reality.

I keep waiting for the day when he just loses it and starts beating the crap out of one of the reporters who ask him a stupid question. :D

I thought of that too! :D

Ron Ziegler, press secretary to President Nixon, had the one of the better non-answers on record:
"The president is aware of what is going on. That's not to say there is something going on." ;D

IMO, I think that part of the reason the media asks such questions, KNOWING they can't be answered, is to please the public. It gives them something to ponder or discuss. And it gives them a chance to bring in these "experts" to try and figure out what the next plan of action will be. Last night I was switching from CNN to MSNBC to Local News & found that it was nothing but a bunch of speculations & Ret. Military personnel discussing what they think would happen based on what happened during the Gulf War. It's good filler material for the News stations. ::)
