Banana's can't go away!! They are the world's most perfect fruit! I eat one before every hockey game. In fact, I eat one just about every day! If it weren't for the spiders loving to live in the trees, I'd want an orchard! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...tell me it's not true!!
:'( :'( :'(

If they stop using them to demonstrate how condoms work maybe those bananas can start gettin' busy ;D

Save the banana!!!! They are my favorite fruit... they aren't messy like oranges can be, and unlike an apple, you don't need a knife to peel them. They are nature's perfect snack!!!

I thought those tiny brown/black things in the center of a banana were the seeds.

Bananas are definitely nature's perfect snack. :D
They will not become extinct. We have people out there right now who's job is to make sure nothing in this world ever becomes extinct again...ever. ;D

Now now, Hairspray, you know as well as I do that extinction is part of the natural course of things ;) However, being that bananas are a genetically enhanced super-snack, this would be an exception. But if squirrels are too stupid to look both ways before walking in front of my car going at 70 mph, that's not my problem ::)

Ok. ok. Let's just say that with all the preservation societies out there, scientists, cloning experimentation, et., etc....
We virtually have nothing to worry about. :)
That's all I can say for now... ;) Shhhh...

Lots of things go extinct every year, you just don't hear about it unless it's some cute mammal.

They are. It's a berry. But those "seeds" are useless in the production of the banana tree. They reproduce asexually, so it means they are identical to the parent plant. There's no genetic mingling of two parent plants, so there isn't variation and selection as there is with sexual reproduction (condoms on a banana are overkill!). The plant grows from a stem called a rhizome (sp?), which grows into a trunk thingy from where flowers appear (magically!), and these become fruits. The plants subsequently die and more grow from this neat little stem system. I actually had to consult my old botany book 'cause all my Ouija board said was "M - A - G - I - C - K."
The book I got this info from is the second ed. of Botany by Randy Moore, W. Dennis Clark, and Darrell S. Vodopich, which also comes with a lab manual explaining this junk in further detail...
