Subject: Stolen music

Outside of sampling, looping & covering, have you heard a song you-swear-you've- heard-before-but-with-a-different-title?
Chad Kroeger's "Hero"... maybe sounds a lot like Seal's "Kiss From A Rose"? ? ?
Can you think of others?
{oops! I probably posted this in the wrong section :-[ }

Michelle Branch and Santana's "The Game of Love" sounds a whole lot like "You Get What You Give" by The New Radicals.
"Extraordinary" by Better Than Ezra seems to be a ripoff of both Beck's "Loser" and Sublime's "What I Got."
"Last Nite" by The Strokes is a ripoff of Cheap Trick's "I Want You To Want Me."

Savage Garden's "I Want You" is a ripoff of Reunion's "Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)".

The real question is whether they were inspired by other songs, or directly ripped off. The main riff of Blue Oyster Cult's "Cities on Flame" is almost exactly the same as Black Sabbath's "The Wizard". And it was completely deliberate.

the guitar riff from T-Rex's "Get it on" has been used in a song by Oasis "Cigarettes and alcohol" and Thunder's "Dirty Love". 20th century boy's riff has also been pilfered by Teenage Fanclub (Hang on), who's song "what you do to me" rip's off every status quo song...ever....in under two minutes.
oasis are serial song thiefs - nicking lots of Beatles songs (see don't look back in anger and lennon's wonderwall)

I've always sweared that these songs sound similar:
Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting AND Erasure - Sometimes
Robert Palmer - Addicted To Love AND Zappacosta - Overload
Think its something with the intros really

Beautiful by Christina Aguilera sounds like Lonestars "Amazed" a little bit. I thought "Anastacia's "Who's Gonna Stop The Rain" sounds like Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise"(same melody). "Candy" by Bow Bow Wow Wow sounds like "I Love Rock N' Roll" by Joan Jett.

So no one has mentioned "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker, Jr. (a song I hate to death) sounds very similar to "I Want a New Drug" by Huey Lewis and the News?

I always felt Britney Spears' "Oops I Did It Again" sounds too much like Barbra Streisand's "Woman in Love"…

The Begining of "she hates Me" by Puddle of Mud sounds like a Greenday song, but I forget which one.

I mentioned this in another thread, but Shakira's "Underneath Your Clothes" has the exact same melody as the Bangles' "Eternal Flame".

Riffs are inevitably going to be 'stolen'/ borrowed , but when a melody is lifted, it is pure theft. It reminds me of when John Fogerty solo was sued for plagerising John Fogerty of CCR. There's a big difference between whether one song reminds me of another, and when it is melodically the same. I have other DJ friends who complain that all ZZ Top sounds the same--- well, sure it does... sort of... They almost always write in a similar key, bu it's what they do with the other 4 elements of music in between that makes each song distinguishable.

I don't know if someone's already said this on here... But "Don't forget me" by RHCP sounds like "Other Side" but i suppose thats ok because they done both the songs so technically it isn't stolen ;D ;D

Although it is better to do that because the bands are showing what they used to be like... How I wish for the Manics to return to their anarchic days of lovely rock/punk music instead of their moderate blah-ish music now.
