Subject: Pacers Break The Mav's 14-Game Winning Streak

Written By: Indy Gent on 11/28/02 at 09:16 p.m.

Congratulations on a complete game domination by Our Indiana Pacers as they whip the Dallas Mavericks 110-98 at the Fieldhouse. Jermaine O'Neal scores 28 to offset Steve Nash's 29. And they out-rebound the Mavs 54-36. Jermaine had 14 alone.
GO PACERS!!!

I thought O'Neal had 18 boards...oh well :P

Congrats, I hope they win the NBA title this year...I don't like this string of western conference dominance.

You're correct, RC! I just counted his defensive rebounds. Apologies to Jermaine for shortchanging. :-[

Western Conference dominance?

Oh come on now.  It is true that the West has had the better teams for the last 15 years or so, while the East is loaded with pathetic NBA wannabees.  BUT, the East usually produces that one great team that no one can beat.

Dating back to the early '80's, it's always been the Sixers, the Celtics, or the Pistons, and ofcourse in the 90's the Bulls.  The East has had one great team amongst a sea of terrible teams.  And that one great team usually wins it.  While the West has been clearly superior for the past 10-15 years, it is rare that the West wins.  The West has won the past 4 years simply because the East has failed to produce that one great team like the Bulls, Pistons or Celtics.

In the past 22 years how many Western teams have one an NBA championship?  3.  The Lakers, the Rockets and the Spurs.  The Rockets won in 1994 and 1995.  The Spurs won in 1999.  Every other year since 1980 that a Western team has actually won it's been the Lakers.

Although Eastern Conference teams have won their share of NBA titles, they haven't one since the last Bulls one. And I hope the Pacers are ready to end the Western "dominance".
