I just saw Angels in the Outfield...now that the Angels won the World Series they're going to show that movie nonstop until spring training.

Which brings us to this topic: what's your favorite sports movie?

I like Days of Thunder, also Field of Dreams is pretty cool, I've also been to the set where it was filmed.

Great movie, still funny today, even funnier with the fashions Paul Newman was wearing.  The Hanson brothers are classic! ;D

Okay sue me, but "The Longest Yard". That was before Burt Reynolds became a butt with Dom DeLuise.

Say, IndyGent, I recall reading somewhere that you were in the movie "Hoosiers" for a brief period of time.  That must've been kinda fun.

that is an obscure movie...but interesting, given that I've also seen it and like it...so maybe it's not so obscure after all.

Though I sometimes question whether the "pick-off play" at the end to get Griffey is legal...I mean, sure the players can get into the act, but the security guard?  Talk about home field advantage.

I loved Hoosiers and Major League but being a guy I was almost ashamed to say a so called "chick flick" was my favorite sports movie, but I'm with ArchAngel.

I would say very brief. I was in the stands at Hinkle Fieldhouse with the crowd cheering on the Hickory Huskers. If you watch carefully, I'm the one with the oversized, drab green shirt with the buttons on the collars missing. So it looks like a dove or something was flying into the stands. Yes, it was very fun to at least get involved in a big Hollywood production. My only complain was that my car was in the shop, and I had to take a bus downtown, then another one to Hinkle. Since there was no bus service after 7:00PM that Saturday, I had to call my folks to pick me up. Still, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. :)

Did you get to talk to Gene Hackman or Dennis Hopper?  That must have been a great experience.  I once met Robin Williams on Berkeley's campus when I was a student there and he was filming Patch Adams.  Cool dude.

Sorry :( I couldn't get near them or Barbara Hershey because of security. And besides, they were in the middle of shooting some key scenes. But I did see them and David Anspaugh, who directed "Hoosiers". And I did see the game winning shot.

Major League-1989....Only the first one though
Without Limits-1998...the story of Steve Prefontaine....not "Prefontaine" the lousy disney effort.
North Dallas Forty-1979 A look into the evils pro sports
The Longest Yard-1973 One of my favorite Burt Reynolds movies
and The original Brians Song-1971 the "New" one was just awful, IMHO

sorry....I couldn't give you just one!

I'd like to point out that "The Rookie" came out this past spring and was a really awesome and inspiring sports movie...I figure it has a shot at some of the major awards because it was just so well done.

Hoop Dreams was a great film, a documentary filmed over 7 years of two young athletes aspiring to go pro.
Also, caught the Longest yard on the tube again recently and that is a great flick.

I love baseball movies.  So, I'd have to say The Natural and Field of Dreams.  But there are a few other favs on my list.  Brian's Song, Eight Men Out and Rocky.

My kind of woman ;)

And even though purists say the Natural (movie) did not end like the Natural (book), I think the movie was absolutely beautiful.  What was that anyway, a 700-foot home run?  Had to be to shatter the lights...

I don't believe it's an obscure movie. Just old.  :)
