I'm with dagwood...I just read a week or so ago that he was sick..but at that time, the doctors said he'd be fine to act by the time the next film started shooting.. :-[ That's so sad--though I wasn't familiar with his earlier work, I loved him as Dumbledore. My thoughts are with his family for sure. :'(

RIP
Richard Harris had a long and eventful career. I was privilidged to see him live on stage as Arthur in Camelot when he brought the production downunder in 1984. His stage presence was incredible.
I was sitting on the front row - aged just 15 or 16 - I had to look up high to the stage. I had a the biggest fit of the giggles thru the first act because Richards tights had a hole in the worst place. Every time he walked past me I giggled again.
After Intermission he strode out onto the stage in a dressing gown to chat to the audience before the show continued. They were celebrating some kind of performance milestone - his 1000th performance or something. So he was chatting about that and about the fun and misfortunes of live theatre. He looked straight down at me and said "sometmes the audience would even point out badly placed holes in ones costume" and gave me a huge wink.
What a memory !! I have always treasured that little moment and will do so even more now that he has lost his battle with Hodgkins.
I am sure he is up there having the first of many drinks with his best mates Oliver Reed and Richard Burton.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sad. :'( I also met Richard Harris after a performance of "Camelot" in Los Angeles. One of the many times I saw it. After the show he stayed around in the parking lot talking and signing autographs. He didn't leave when the pen ran out of ink, he waited for another pen. What a nice down to Earth man. Such a terrible loss.

Richard Harris was one of the true artists of classic theater and film. He even made crap such as "99 and 44/100% Dead" palatable. His ex-wife, Ann Turkel, was very palatable herself, if you know what I mean. He will be sorely missed. :'(

I only remembered him as the emperor from Gladiator...he played that role quite well before Joaquin Phoenix snuffed him. I'm glad he was able to finish his wizardly role for the kids come November.

Thanks SteveH :)
Ohhh Tripsmom how great that you met him !! I wish I had thought to go backstage after Arthur. My dad was always the keenest to get out of the carpark first - so I never got to wander off hunting autographs :(

Actually, we were heading for the parking lot. He just came out the back door heading for his car like one of the regular people.
I can't believe Arthur is gone. :'(
