I just heard that too. It is really sad. From what I heard he was a really good guy. :(

The public radio station has been running coverage of his tragic death all afternoon. Everyone, Republican, Democrat and Independent, is taking this hard. Governor Ventura is flying the state and national flag at half-staff through election day.

I just heard about this. It is sad. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. It sure puts any election problems in perspective.

I hardly knew Senator Paul Wellstone until I saw a confirmation hearing on C-Span. Still, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. He will be missed by many. :'(

Wellstone was in a very close fight with my old hometown mayor, St. Paul's Norm Coleman. Rightly, Coleman has suspended his campaign. The Democrats have until Oct. 31 to submit an alternate candidate... state law doesn't allow Wellstone's name to remain on the ballot.
Governor Ventura wants to appoint a Democrat to finish out Wellstone's term. The names mentioned so far include Walter Mondale and Alan Page. Mondale is 74 and is well respected. Page played football for the Minnesota Vikings. He is now a justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court. He was approached by Minnesota Democrats two years ago to run for the senate, but wasn't interested in it at the time.
