Some new songs you've heard that you absolutely hate?  I cannot stand Justin Timerlake's "Like I Love You"-- it REALLY gets on my nerves!!

Most of them. Yeah, I'm a true throwback. There are the few out there I may hear on someone else's radio, sometimes, I think are alright.

Definitely like the good 'ol reliables like Def Leppard & Bon Jovi with their new stuff.

The last memory of recent songs I dislike with great intensity are the ones (good covers, no less - now ruined and corrupted) spewing out of that guy from "American Idol" Justin Guarini. I just can't stand that goofball. And now he's scored a record deal! I will not be tuning in to the top 40 anytime soon, that's for sure. The top 40 gets overplayed as it is.  >:(

Oh, sorry for getting carried away. I'll try and regain my composure.  ;D

I just had to make one more statement -

Ever since I heard that guy (the one I mentioned in the above post from "American Idol") sing the song from Al Green - "Let's Stay Together", I can't listen to it anymore. This goofball totally ruined my appreciation for this song.

It's a darn shame.  :-/

I agree.....other examples of the MANY SH*TTY re-makes....(I will be able to think of MANY more tomorrow)
Without You....written and done by Pete Ham & Tom Evans of  Badfinger,  who then gave it to Harry Nilsson in 1971.
The re-make from H*ll-Pariah Careys "Version"

ANYTHING by Michael Bolton...show me the toilet :P

And, of course, when they take ANYTHING that was a beautiful love song and turn it into "Techno"....like Bryan Adams "Heaven"  More to come...I feel sick now

"Complicated" by Avril Lavigne.  I kinda like her new one, though.

"Everywhere" by Michelle Branch.  I don't like anything she's done.

"Warning" by Incubus.  The speed at which these guys have gone downhill is absolutely frightening.

"Too Bad" by Nickelback.  It's like a bunch of Canadian guys sat around going, "You know, I bet if we put our minds to it, we could make a band even WORSE than Creed."  And speaking of which:

"One Last Breath" by Creed.  Scott Stapp resembles Steve Perry more every day.

"Cry" by Faith Hill.  Continuing to suck the life out of country music.

"Dilemma" by Nelly.  He should've stuck that bandage over his lips.

I haven't heard the Justin Timberlake one, but I guarantee you I'd hate it.

"Don't Let Me Get Me" by Pink.  Didn't we get rid of the Lilith Fair crowd just so we wouldn't have to listen to songs like this?

"She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd.  "...So She Must Be Pretty Intelligent."

"Cry" -- Faith Hill.

"Sk8er Boi" -- Avril Lavigne -- I used to like the song, but then it "turned pop" and was (is) played every frikin minute on the radio!

"Dillemma" -- Nelly - same as above.

Anything by Creed is getting on my nerves now.

Good Charlotte "Lifestyles Of The Rich and Famous" somewhat applies to the same thing I said about "Skater Boi" and "Dilemma", but it's still manageable to listen to.

I know this isn't new (last year?) but I had to mention it - "I Hope You Dance", the cross-over country song.

I love country but this is probably the most overrated hit song I've heard, period, in a long time.  I appreciate the sentiment, but it just...sucks.  It just doesn't flow well; hard to explain but it just seems the words hang out there and are poorly placed.  Only other hit I can think of in a similar vein (tho' it grew on me) was "My Heart Will Go On" or whatever, from "Titanic".  I grew to like it but I still say she says "goooo ooonn" too much (i.e., it's lame) and it hangs.  Just seems like lyrics for these songs don't go well.  And the country song's melody isn't even that great.

True. But, when the Macerena was out, I was about 11. When 'Saturday Night' was out, I was 9. What I'm trying to say that your age influences whether or not you choose to conform in these stupid dances! I actually did 'Saturday Night' a few weeks ago and it brought back memories of childhood, dances at school discos etc... If both of the aforementioned songs came out now I would discredit and disgard them staright away, they'd have no influence on me. But the Ketchup song is just plain awful, no question about it. Maybe I feel this strongly beacuse all the kids at work adore it and go round singing and doing the dance to it! ;D

Yah, I was just thinking about how I couldn't tell the difference between "No such thing", "Gangster Loving", and "A Moment Like This" .  They definately sound the same.  ::)

I am begining to think some people on this board will hate a new song no matter how "talented" the artist is.  Saying Blanket statements like "all new music sucks" doesn't help anyone respect your point of view, it just makes you sound unfamiliar with new music, some of wich is actually decent.  In the 90's there was a problem with people ditching eighties music, most of wich could not even name three eighties song's.   Good music is still out there it is just a little less frequent.

I agree, and when people say... "I haven't heard the new Eminem song, but I know I don't like it because I hate Eminem."  I mean, isn't it a little unfair to judge a song before you've even heard it, just because you don't like the artist?  Many artists I have hated in the past I like now.

While this is true, you must admit, 90% of the music that comes out today, sounds just like something that came out last week by another band. Either that, or they're sampling the music I grew up with.  My belief is that if you have to sample someone elses music, you shouldn't even be allowed to record.  If you can't have something original, what's the point?

This is why I make a blanket statement about most music today.  Eminem and Linkin Park are the only exceptions I can think of right now.  Eminem because he doesn't give a crap, and says what he wants, and linkin park because they have a few good jams.  Other than that, it mostly just sucks.

Look, I hear what some of u r saying but I gotta come back here!

I was brought up by my brilliant  music loving parents, with a massive variety of music from classical to AC/DC from Roxy Music to Van Morrison, from Beatles to Kinks. I like and listen to a lot of different styles.

A lot of the current stuff shows a lack of imagination with many covering or sampling old songs. Rapping, whilst being a form of self expression which people have a right to perform and listen to is talking to music, not singing so should be sold as such.

I dislike 'generally' certain artists because if u need to have a filthy, crude mouth, show as much flesh as possible, promote evil, drugs, pornography, law breaking and swearing to sell a CD then really where is the talent.

I am not a prude but think some things are not for sharing with the whole world. We are living in a very violent world where no-one respects anyone anymore and f*** has repaced the word love in meaning and the word 'the' by way of how many times it crops up in one sentence.

There is some good stuff out ther u just gotta look  lot harder these days

Astral climbs sheepishly off her soap-box :-

I like a lot of hiphop but "Black Suits Comin'" blew like nothing else.  Will Smith needs to for the love of god stop making music and stick to acting (and I mean in real movies too, Will, not that short and pathetic piece of crap like the movie that stupid song was attached to).  As for Hot in Herre, I like it, but not because of Nelly, who is a pathetic sellout, assuming he had anything to sell out to begin with.  It's a good party song with a good beat (The Neptunes are gods), but Nelly needs to have his mouth band-aided shut.  Khia's "My Neck My Back" is one of the worst songs ever.  Cam'ron's "Oh Boy" is incredibly annoying.  Ja Rule needs to die.

Thank God for Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Common, The Roots, and especially Outkast.

I cant stand any of Eminems "music."  This guy has very little talent if any.  And no Im not complaining about his content.  Seriously if you took an M-60 machine gun firing and put a beat behind it you have the same thing as Eminem.  BAP-BAP-BAP-BAP-BAP--------BAP-BAP-BAP-BAP----BAP-BAP-BAP-BAP-BAP

uugghhhh,   I long for the days when musical acts gained popularity by playing INSTRUMENTS.  This goes for all the Britneys, Christinas and N'Syncs.  Move over for some real talent.

Subject: Re: New Songs You Can't Stand

Written By: Junior on 12/20/02 at 12:33 a.m.

On one hand, I disagree with Jeff: Eminem definitely has talent and is a lyrical genius. I would like to see him apply his songwriting talent to rock music, it could produce some excellcent music. However, for the time being, I think hip-hop is his way to go. Maybe we should except a Limp Bizkit/Linkin Park-esque time thing from Eminem...? Probably not, but I can hope.

But, I also agree with Jeff: Please please please, leave the "click-click-click-enter" music to the electronica/dance genre. The pop acts could do just as good with a band behind them, so I'd like to see that. Perhaps they credit themselves along with their band too. I can handle, and in some cases enjoy, the Vanessas and Michelles, but the Britneys and Christinas need a band, not all this computerized crap.

Who says you need to know how to play an instrument to be talented?  Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye or David Bowie didn't know how to play an instrument.  Not well, anyway.  They still rule.

Some more new songs I hate:

"Your Body Is a Wonderland" by John Mayer.  Dave Matthews called; he wants his act back.

"You Know You're Right" by Nirvana.  Let a good band rest in peace, dammit.

"Jenny from the Block" by Jennifer Lopez.  Bad music is one thing, but bad music that blatantly lies to me is another.

"My Neck, My Back" by Khia.  Of the pathetic sex-raps, this one is the worst.

"Whatever Ashanti Has Released Recently" by Ashanti.  Someone for the love of God tell me what is so damn impressive about a Janet Jackson wannabe with no voice.

I disagree. I think there's just as much good music now as there was ten or twenty or thirty years ago. Take the Beatles for example, or the Stones. Every single album they came out with had two or three excellent songs and five or six that absolutely sucked! And how many one hit wonders were there from the '70's and the '80's and the '90's? Just as many as there are today.
Just because in a lot of peoples opinions Creed isn't doing the quality of music now that they did on their debut CD you can't deny the fact that they set a record for most #1 hits on a debut album. And who knows, maybe their next one will be better than their first one.
As far as Incubus goes I think their latest CD is a lot better than Science (which I hated) and better than Make Yourself which I thought was pretty good.
It's a known fact that top 40 stuff has never been and probably never will be the best music these artists have to offer.

Thing is, don't the 'older generation' always say that? Our kids will be saying that about new music in years to come. I'm not disagreeing with you however - as most of you know, 1'm 18 and much prefer older music. But when you think about it, there are some songs from the last 10 years or so which indefinitly will be remebered as classics. I'm telling you that songs such as:

Kylie - Can't Get You Outta My Head
Spiller - Groovejet
Justin Timberlake - Like I Love You
Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger

... to name but a few. I'm positive that they will be recalled as 'classics' in years to come. The above songs and many more are refered to as modern day classics in some cases. Whther they're just pure cheese doesn't matter. Look how popular Abba were and still are! Kylie's song even got to number 2 of VH1's viewer vote of the '100 Greatest Floor Fillers' - which is a big achievment for a song which has only been around for about a year.

I like Incubus a lot  - they are one of my favourite artists around at the moment. 'Make Yourself' is my favourite album though :)
