Subject: Britney to cover Clash's "London Calling" (?)
I read an article on the Internet which was written on AFD, that Britney's fourth album will be a full-length cover of The Clash's "London Calling." Here is the link:
http://www.ink19.com/issues/april2002/features/britneyCalling.html
If the link doesn't work, type the words "britney spears london calling" into the search bar, and it'll most likely be the first page listed.

Oh no. Not yet another cover. That song's a classic. Nothing against Britney personally, but she'd do well to stay away from the rest of the classics she's not yet touched. It's just a matter of principle. Just my opinion folks.

Nothing wrong with that opinion Hairspray
I only had to read the title of the thread and my heart sank.... :(

I don't mind Britney Spears producing music. I encourage it, in a passive way. I'm fairly sure I've even bought one of her singles, on a spur-of-the-moment "try anything twice" principle. The problem comes, as it came with the British Pop Idols, Will and Gareth, was that their output, so far, consists of the following. Will released Evergreen/Anything Is Possible (the first a boyband cover, the second a song specially written for the show, which, to be honest, ain't the world's best song...)
Britney Spears' British singles, as good as they are, seem to have one common characteristic.
(Her singles), Baby One More Time, which I shall admit I liked, was not written by her. Nor I'm A Slave 4 U, Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know (written by Mutt Lange and Shania Twain). Need I continue?
I write music, I know how difficult it is. And yes, this is what songwriters are paid to do. But one third of a credit on an album? If it works for people, then what's the problem, but, as we see, there's plenty for whom it doesn't.

I'm not one of those punker-than-thou types that will complain about how punk is sacred and how pop-punk like Blink-182 are complete and total utter sellouts because they're not angry or confrontational enough.
But Britney freaking Spears covering one of the greatest protest anthems of of one of the greatest bands is so very wrong on so many levels. I refuse to believe this is even possible.

What next for Britney? "Space Oddity"?!! :-X

It was an AFD joke all this time, and I found out through an email. I feel so stupid :P The one thing that hinted the untruth to it was mentions of an Apocalypse scheduled for Next Tuesday or something. :P I actually believed some of the Britney story. Yes, she was said in that article to cover the full album.

Whew! I feel so relieved, yet in some way disappointed: her insipid cover of "I Love Rock & Roll" inspired my most voted-on parody, so I was already thinking about what I'd write on this one ;-)

You read this one? When asked why she chose that song to cover, Ms.Spears replied, "'Cause I've always loved Pat Benetar!"
My cringes are cringing.

P.S.
I'm hoping this time it will be because, "I've always loved that movie 'Sid and Nancy'"

... this is my preface to my parody:

After hearing Britney's cover of I Love Rock and Roll - a dreadfully weak and pathetic imitation - even if Miss Spears herself does think that the original was by Pat Benatar.End Quote
...If the "dumb blonde" routine is really just an act, then let's just say she's a really good actress..
