Quoting:

You know, the thing about those jobs is that they give the German worker financial security. It's so laughable to still read ridiculous numbers like, "1.9% unemployment rate in Orange County - one of the lowest in the country blah blah blah..." What the statement does not mention is that most of those "jobs" cannot pay the living expenses in Orange County... some of those people live in parts like Long Beach, Corona, or Oceanside! Such an unemployment rate is worthless. I could get better benefits if I was unemployed.

Strange though, doesn't Germany have more of a capitalist economy - moreso than their eastern and western neighbours? Hmwell, OUR "economy" is far worse; let's remember we are still trillions in debt... I wonder, is that... is that how a capitalist economy supposed to be run?

I agree with you, Unemployment figures are just the perople who are claiming unemployment benefits, not the people who lost there $18 an hour job at IBM and had to take $8 an hour job just to get by.  The national debt is the money the government owes to the private sector. the private sector could still be doing well and we could still have a large national debt.
