Subject: Any piano players out there?
One thing I just love to do is play the piano and I'm just wondering if anyone else on this messageboard is a piano player and what they like to play. I like playing classical music-favorite composers are Mozart and Grieg. I'm also one of those people who can listen to a song on the radio and just play it by ear....and on PERFECT PITCH! OOOOH!!!!! AREN'T YOU SO JEALOUS OF THE MUSIC EXPERT? :D haha

I play piano but I'm not much into classical. I can play "Let's Do the Time Warp" and "Philosophy" by Ben Folds Five, though, and I can probably play your favorite song too.
Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
I play piano, but a lot more modern stuff...:-) I can play Eminem's "Cleanin Out My Closet" and OutKast's "Whole World".
Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
Oh come on you guys! That's not real music!! ;)
No, I'll play just about anything off the radio if I know it, and if I like it. Sometimes I play this game with my sister where I take a song, for instance "Cleaning out my closet", and I slow it down a lot and "exaggerate" it and make her guess what it is I'm playing. It's kinda funny because sometimes I'll be playing a song that she absolutely HATES and she doesn't even know what I'm playing for like 10 minutes. ;D
Well, what other kinda stuff do y'all like 2 play?

Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
I play the piano, up to grade 6 standard, and I have got absolute pitch accurate to the quartertone. The most recent things I learnt to play were a Bach prélude, a pile of duets by Gabriel Fauré, including the Berceuse and Mi-a-ou from the Dolly Suite. And so on.
Also I can play anything I hear on the radio by ear after I've heard it, which is quite a neat skill. Even the new Eminem track, Cleaning Out My Closet, which has a chorus consisting of about three "chords", I have learnt, along with Nelly Furtado's 'Bird, and Shakira's 'Clothes, which has a few funky chords in it.
I have recently learnt to play Always and Prayer by Bon Jovi, too which is quite cool, because I've wanted to play those for a while on the piano. Every time, though, I wanna start Always on E major and not C# minor... I don't know why, my piano doesn't like me, I guess... what do you reckon, Jonman?

"Home Sweet Home"... that's a fun one.
It's funny, when I go to the practice hall at my college, everyone else is playing Bach and I'm playing Chuck Berry or No Doubt.
Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
Yeah me and my older sister both have perfect pitch so that's really cool, and a lot of people can get jealous. :P haha Yeah I like Bach preludes and inventions, but I'm not too much into Faure. Last year for contest I played Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu, but I really screwed it up. :-/ But I just LOVE Grieg! Try playing some of his lyric pieces cause they are AWESOME! But actually, my favorite Grieg is the 2nd movement of his Piano Concerto in A minor. I wish I could sing some of it for y'all but...*sigh* you can't hear me. ;)
Oh yeah, and to you southernspitfire, can jonman sing a High C or above? No? I didn't think so... ;) Haha I'm just playin with y'all but like playing piano, I sing just about anything, even though my opera voice is probably my best voice. (Mozart arias rule!) But sometimes I can sing in this really cool "soul" voice if I'm singing low enough. I also like to sing Broadway, SOME "pop" if it's not any really gay stuff, and I sing hymns at church of course. Oh yeah, and I'm the pianist for my church. :)

ANY Bon Jovi fan has, by law, got to be able to sing, if not up to the Eb of Prayer, up to the B of Always. It's a requirement.

As for me, I've always thought that my high/falsetto voice was always my best. My baritone sucks, and my tenor is getting worse all the time. Plenty of times I've come into a singing lesson only to get the one and only countertenor spot that dares to go.
QARa, from one person with perfect pitch to another, doesn't it really annoy you when you play an instrument that's horrendously out of tune? Playing some jazz last night with the jazz band, I found that the piano had been played about with so much, that both 6ths (the A key and the D key) were about a quartertone sharp. Okay, it's jazz, and I could probably cope with it, but they really need to get a tuner in!
Besides, any guy can reach any note they want, it's just a case of finding their two registers. Just like Murray Walker realises when commentating, we have two places at which to sing. The diaphragm, which works whenever it wants, and the throat, which only works when it feels like it. The lower in the vocal registers you go (and I've just tried it with Morten Harket) the lower you feel it hitting. With some good throat exercises, a good tenor or alto can reach notes beyond both registers.
Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
I don't even know why I'm continuing with this but I just had to say that I make my living as a singer.......'nuff said.
Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
I can play 3 songs on the piano:
Home Sweet Home,
Mary Had a Little Lamb,
Silent Night (Holy Night),
and I can do chopsticks.
Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
Yes I HATE it when something's outta tune. My piano's kinda bad though but I guess I"m used to it. What i really hate though is listening to someone tune a violin..... :P yuck! And I ESPECIALLY hate "fiddle" music. Unfortunately, in Oklahoma there's too many people that actually enjoy violin abuse.
Falsetto? That's very interesting...but I prefers a bass or baritone anytime ;) hehe
Jonman?......Buddy.....*sniff*.....I wasn't trying to be mean or anything.....forgive me.....please? :'( (Hey this is probably the last time you'll hear ZE QUEEN beg forgiveness of her own subjects...lol!)
No offense to y'all, but I'm not exactly a Bon Jovi fan. :-/ I prefer listening to hard alternative rock like System of a Down. :D

I suck at playing the piano. I tried to learn but never got the hang of it. All I can play is "Heart & Soul" and a few other idiotic piano songs that anyone can play.

Hey Queenie,
I played professionally (everything from garage bands to "backing up" major acts) since I was 14 yrs. old (I'm now 46). Thank God for your talent but don't get into that "I'M BETTER THAN YOU, HES BETTER THAN HIM, THAT BANDS BETTER THAN THIS ONE" mentality. I'm not preachin' to ya, but its music sweetie. Nobodys keeping score. Just a couple words to the wise from an old piano plunkin', sax blowin' rocker!!!

Pretty nifty! ;D I know there's a lot of classical music at those sites! A lot of times when I really want to play a song I'll go online and see if there's so free sheet music for it so I don't have to go out and by it. ;D
Ok you guys I wasn't really getting a I'm better than you "mentality." Just playin around....TU COMPRENDES? ;) Actually what I think is that's really cool for you guys who have made a living with music. Even though just about everybody tells me I should major in piano or voice, I really don't think its gonna get ME anywhere. I mean, my sister was a music major and what's she doing now?...working in a bank vault....very musically stimulating....NOT! As for me, I'm going to major in Special Education. What I really wanna do is work with autistic children.
Well, thats kinda off the subject huh? ;) Y'all need to STOP CALLING ME "QUEENIE!!" THAT IS NOT AN OPTION! YOU MAY CHOOSE FROM ONE OF THE NAMES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE MESSAGE, BUT ABSOLUTELY NO QUEENIE!!!!!!

Clarinet is an instrument that I can't play, so I give ya props there. ;-) :-D
I do, however, play Piano, Flute, Trumpet, Percussion (Drums/Xylophone/Bells/etc.) and a lil' guitar, but not much.
^ Hope that didn't sound braggy. :-P ^
Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
Right now, my dream instrument is a cello. (*ahem* I accept any donations to the Queen AmenRa Cello fund ;) ) Percussion instruments are pretty cool too. At Christmas I sing in the community performance of "The Messiah" and I just LOVE hearing that timpani! :) Oh yeah and the trumpet's really cool too. But I don't think I would ever be able to play a brass instrument. :-/

Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
I am a musical prodigy. I can play just about any instrument with keys: Piano, keyboard, synthesizer, organ, you name it. I play a lot of classic rock and stuff. Here is a list of songs I am able to play on piano/keyboards:
Bits and pieces of "Mr. Roboto"
"Keep On Lovin' You"
The guitar riff from "Layla"
"Lady" by Styx
A little bit of "Come Sail Away"
"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" (Riff/organ intro/drum solo with organ accompaniment)
"Brave New World" by Styx
"Blue Collar Man" by Styx
"Heavy Water" by Styx
"Dream On" by Aerosmith
Theme from "Dragnet" (only the the first five notes)
Theme from "Charlie's Angels"
"We Will Rock You" (chorus)
"You've Got a Friend in Me" from the Toy Story movies
"Singin' in the Rain"
"Sesame Street"
"Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" theme
"Simpsons" theme song
Theme from "Jeopary!"
Theme from "Millionaire"
"Miss America" by Styx (synth intro)
"Suite Madame Blue" by Styx (verses/chorus/I think I could also play the last part of the song)
"Fooling Yourself" by Styx
"Crocodile Rock" by Elton John (La la la...)
"A Fifth of Beethoven" (disco)
I think I once played "Satisfaction" (Britney's version, looooooooooong before I even knew the Stones did the song). I have also written by own songs and practically wore out the batteries on my keyboard. I still need an adapter for my keyboard, and am no longer in access of a piano or anything.
Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
I have mastered the treble part on "A Thousand Miles" :) -- but I have to use two hands to play it, which prevents me from playing the bass part.
Unless I grow a third hand. :o

I can't do that INSTANTLY, but it usually doesn't take me too long to figure out the chord pattern. My girlfriend at the time was really really impressed when I was able to pull out "Hungry Like the Wolf" in about seven seconds. And it's not the simplest of songs either, there's a slightly tricky key change in the chorus.
Subject: Re: Any piano players out there?
<nods> I totally know what you mean about Hungry... I used to have the same problem with a bit of music, where I couldn't work out the exact tabbed chord with the D5 and so on... grrffhh, it stunk.
