Subject: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
I think the Brian Adam's song heaven remix is just down right terrible. I tried to like it, I tried, but I just can't get into that song. I really can't stand it. What do you fellow 80's members think?
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
I turn it off the second it comes on the air.
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
I don't like it too...

I freakin' HATE it!! And the new remix of Corey Hart's "Sunglasses At Night" as well! Ewwwwwwwww! :P :P
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
Heck, I didn't like Brian Adams much anyway. :-X
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
The first moment I heard this on the radio, I thought it was nice to hear a new eurodance song. Then the vocals kicked in...http://www.plauder-smilies.de/pukeface.gif

I love Bryan and it really bugs me to know that someone remade his song. What really bugs me was that he gave them permission to remake his song. What happened to "Kids wanna Rock" where he said that he didn't like this new wave music? Maybe he changed his view on it, who knows. But the new song bugs me. They did such a terrible remake of it. Its supposed to be a slow romantic song. Its not meant for techno.

Actually songwriters don't give permission for someone to remake their songs...once they're copyrighted they are open to whoever wants to record them in whatever fashion....provided that songwriting credits are given and royalties are paid...so as bad as these remixes are, the writers are still getting paid....a sad truth...still, if I were Bryan I'd be cringing....
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
Are you talking about DJ Sammy's dance cover of Bryan Adams' Heaven? You all seem to be calling it a remix, but it's not a remix, it's a cover. A remix is where you take the original recording and do something to change it, whereas a cover is where you remake a song yourself, which is what DJ Sammy's "Heaven" is.
Also, you need permission from the original artist to remix one of their recordings, but not to cover a song they have written.
I just thought I'd make sure everyone knows the proper meaning of the word "remix" :)

Whatever. I think we can all agree, however, that the new one truly sucks, right?
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
First the rappers steal "Riffs" from songs, then Michael Bolton steals an entire song and says it's HIS....now new "Artists" are taking songs and destroying them...what ever happened to being original. I guess everyone has to steal borrow and re-make because all of the "Old-time Rock And Roll" was the best ;)
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
Thundervamp9, you took the words right out of my mouth ;D
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
I don't care for it at all. I liked it a little bit when it first came out, but overall, I think it's a crappy song. Bryan Adams did a much better job...
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
It was a bad idea to remake a classic like Bryan Adams' "Heaven." And God forbid he sings other cool songs by cool artists:
Run to You
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
Stairway to Heaven
It's Raining Men
Ghostbusters
Monster Mash
Halloween theme song
Spongebob theme song
Subject: Techno or rock and roll.
My girlfriend likes the new version only because she hasn't heard the original yet. I am going to let her listen to it one of these days, and she just might like the original better. But to each his or her own, because if someone likes the nice musically inclined techno sound, then they will go for any remake. But I would like them to hear the original first before they compare the two. I personally like Bryan Adams version much better, but the new version isn't too bad. It brings a nice twist to the new era of music, when a different category of music can remake anything from the past and at least give an effort. But I do stress permission from the original author of the song.
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
I have to say that I do like the singers voice on the cover. I don't agree with a a 'techno' remake, like Auroras version of Duran Durans 'Ordinary World' - but I think both songs are sung well regardless of the backing 'tune'.
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
i think the remix is bad too...however, DJ Sammy did another one of the same song with the same girl singing it to a piano-its really beautiful and worth listening to.....have to say it brought a tear to my eye!
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
Terrible. I thought it was a joke when I first heard it then realized this person was for real! Could you imagine if somebody took Elton John's "Your Song" and turned it into a rap song. It's THAT bad! :-/

It is Yanou's Candelight Mix, and it is wonderful. Not techno at all just piano and orchestra, and the singer. I was impressed.
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
You people gotta be kidding me. The song wasn't good to begin with. The cover would have actually been an improvement, if it weren't for the fact that it's soul-suckingly awful.
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
Well everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, if you are going to do a remake of a song, make it worth listening to. Why take a song from bad to worse?

Because everyone is entitled to their opinion. My friends all love this song.
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
i've never heard the original, but i've heard both of the remakes (or is one a remake and the other a remix? ah, well, anyway!). they had the nerve to play the slow one at the homecoming dance back in october...everyone was like "wow! this is the best song EVER!" needless to say, i found some excuse to hang around the halls until the song was over... ;D

Hahaha I didn't realize that it took "nerve" to play a relatively unoffensive Bryan Adams remake. ::) ::) ::) ::) BTW-Why do you even care or have an opinion if you have never heard the original?
And, let's get some perspective here folks. It isn't like someone blasphemed. It was a remake of a rock song for heaven's sake....pardon the pun. Nothing to get your panties in a bunch about. Look up tragedy in the dictionary folks, before you get all wound up over something this minor. 8)

Anyway, have y'all also heard DJ Sammy's equally-wretched "Boys of Summer" remake? :'(
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
Don't like the remake? Don't listen to it. I have not heard the techno version of the song, just the candelight mix, and it was quite pretty. I like the original too. What would the eighties have been without Brian Adams, along with all of the other good singers and bands that helped form the eighties music. Of course, the original is usually going to be the best version.

It is amazing how one question can anger people. I posted this back in September of last year. Actually I had forgotten all about the post until I started receiving e-mails regarding responses. When I first posted the message, the responses were pretty simple. Yes I like, no I don't like. However I am now noticing a twist in the latter responses of some that are disturbed by the question and comments. Some are making it personal, and am now turning a simple question into a debatable situation. Well that is not why I posted. I respect opinions, however I will not get involved in an ongoing lip service of anger. They know who they are. Nothing wrong with responding to the post, but keep things in perspective. If the whole world likes it fine, if not oh well. It was just a question to began with.

That's right! I got your back, eightiesgirl. 8)
On topic:
I did not like the covers/remixes or whatever they technically are.
The original is best and it's 80's! :D
Though, I'm not surprised about these versions being around; With the lack of originality going on full-force since the 90's and all.... ::)]
And that's my opinion, thank you very much. ;) :)

Sorry peeps, but I like it so.... pppllllbbbbb :P !
I guess you have to like techno, dance type music in order to like it. I've heard plenty of remixes/covers of ALOT of songs, whether it be from the 80's, 90's or today.....and some really do suck...but this isn't one of them.
That's MY opinion.

I'll have to try to get it on a mp3 file. I was inspired by DJ Z-Trip; If you can find it listen to his Volume 1 CD....all sorts of crazy mixes like that.
Subject: Re: Brian Adam's song Heaven remixed
I've heard the song (part of it) and don't really care for it. I too, like Bryan's version better.
By the way, I don't wanna sound dumb here, but who is the vocalist/s on the song? I know DJ Sammy is a guy, and it sounds like a lady is singing. Who is it?

Is Vol. 1 Uneasy Listening? "This is the best CD I own"- it's great.
I went to a record store in Phoenix, near Metrocenter over the weekend that had a Bombshelters DJ album there...

YES! I love that CD! Hey, was that recordstore Monkey Mambo? I was just there the previous weekend! Didn't buy anything there though. Then my bro & I went down to ZIA at 19th & Indian School and I bought a coupla cheap 80's 12"s I've been looking for...
Back OT, there are a couple of techno/dance covers I do like, such as Angelina's (not the freestyle artist) "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)," Abigail's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Clueless' "Don't Speak."

It was Monkey Mambo, quite a hike from Tempe, but usually well worth it...Uneasy Listening rocks, I love part where Z- Trip mixes Just The Way It Is and It's Like That-awesome.
So I finally heard DJ Sammy's version of Heaven today. The original was such an old school jam that it was strange hearing it in such a different context. I don't really dig techno, so I didn't think it was all that, but obviously everyone has different tastes in music. I would be interested to hear the Candlelight Mix though, sounds kind of interesting.

My favorite part is "Rockit" vs. "She's A Beauty" and then "Bring Tha Noize" vs. "Promises Promises." The "Rhinestone Cowboy" mix is awesome also.
It seems like Monkey Mambo got smaller since I visited last (2000).

I still head over to Rockaway too, you're right, that place has been around forever. They have a pretty good selection. I usually hit up the 45's section and get 15 45's for 10 bucks...

I paid a pretty penny or two for some imports they had, but balanced out on some of their cheap stuff too.
OT, another remix I like is Karmadelic's cover of Journey's "Who's Crying Now?" The vocals are nearly spot on.
