Subject: How did Madonna get so mainstream?
Remember the days when she was nothing but a skank ho? Even as recently as 1996/'97, people still thought of Madonna as a whore who was a bad influence on kids. But since like '99 or 2000, she's been very mainstream it appears. How the hell did that happen?
Is it because her core fanbase from the '80s got older? Is it because that 16 year old Madonna fan from 1983 is 35 now that she is seen as more acceptable? Cause she was still thought of as a ho and a bad influence through most of the 1990s.

I think it's because her fan base is older and she is older. She's in the over 40 category and a wife and mother so all those old publicity stunts (the sex book, cone bras, ets) are not cute for a 44-year old woman. She is still trying to push the envelope with some of her new videos (Music), that play she did in London, and her new movie Swept Away but none of her antics are shocking anymore because the younger crowd have done it or are doing worse.

I could never figure out why people cared about her in the first place.
Course, when they both were "new" stars, I thought Cyndi Lauper was going to be huge, and Madonna would hit the dust bin.... ::)

I enjoyed the skanky Madonna from the early 80's.Her videos and films were awesome(i.e.Like A Virgin,Lucky Star where she shows her cute belly button,Material Girl where she dresses up in Red,Justify My Love where she has a steamy lesbian kiss that got me off :P ;D (Truth Or Dare was an awesome movie where she did crazy stuff).Those were the days. -howard-

You are SO right! Now she is trying to say she is British after all of the early days when she was so proud to say she was from Michigan (She's a lot like hillary with her changing where she's from thing) and I STILL say that she influenced the name for the band Supertramp!

Well Madonna is still alive, while IMO, Miss Monroe was killed by a kennedy :-X
