Subject: Kelly is new "American Idol"
Well, the first installment of "American Idol" is over. And Kelly Clarkson won last night's live concert over Justin Guaraldi (or whatever his name is). What did you think? I didn't watch it so I couldn't really care less. ::)

I watched this show regularly. Kelly has a terriffic voice. She truly deserved to win.

I agree. Kelly is way more talented than some of the current pop stars out there. The question is if next summers pop idol will be as popular.

Yes, she definitely deserved to win. The others didn't even compare.
Subject: Re: Kelly is new
I have only seen a few episodes of American Idol. Kelly does have the best voice, judging from what I have seen. I wonder where she will go from here.
Subject: Re: Kelly is new "American Idol"
I'm just wondering what you guys all thought of our 'Pop Idol', Will Young who I heard performed with Kelly? I haven't really seen many clips of the final to hear her voice, but I am hoping they'll broadcast the show over here soon.

kelly really does have the better voice. but then, most girls do!! ( no offense guys!)
Subject: Re: Kelly is new "American Idol"
...unless it's an operatic voice. Other than Beverly Sills, what female can compare to Pavoratti, Domingo, Caruso, or Lanza? (I don't even like opera that much, so don't hit me with a frying pan, Ladies. ;) )

I agree with all of y'all, Kelly is definitely the more talented one. I heard like 5 people singing "A Moment Like This" in class or in the halls yesterday! ::)

Kelly has got the voice but her Wonder Bread looks will hinder her success in my opinion.
I really wanted Justin to win. I could look at that hottie all day long. ;)

being british i didn't see that much of American Idol... go figure.
however a particular breakfast show over here did do a segment on the show each week. after all, our version, Pop Idol, was the original. i was blown away by Kelly, she is very talented.
most of you will probably have seen a our winner, Will Young, i believe he appeared on the final of American Idol. he too is very talented.
all i want to add is, in regard to some guy/girls comment about will American Idol2 be as popular? well i'm pretty sure it will be. Reality Tv is super popular right now, the Uk's Big Brother is going to be in it's fourth season next summer and Pop Idol 2 is soon to start. and i'm sure that will be as popular as the original. as will American Idol2.
apologies to the starter of this thread if this post starts ppl talking about the popularity of reality tv... didn't mean to take it away from the subject :D

As someone, I believe, said on Ri:se - I believe that as good as the American contestants were (and most of them were apparently ten times better than the British contestants - as anyone who is seeing the new series in Britain can testify), the top British contestants are still up there with the top Americans. I don't know how the voting and elimination processes worked, but as we got further and further down from the final ten to the final five, the potential stars had to sing one song each week from a different genre. This could be anything from Will singing "Light My Fire" (which he later released), to Gareth, who, for anyone who doesn't know, is a 17 year old that looks like he came out of the newest boyband, singing Mack The Knife, big band stylee.
This showed each artist's forté's, and it also showed how some of the artists were not really very good in some genres, but could prove it in others.
I think, though, that this is away from the fact that we looked for a "Pop" Idol. Not a "Big Band" idol (though an album was made of the songs that appeared on the show - I'm sure it won't stay in print for long), nor a "Rock" idol. Some of the contestants singing rock songs, for me, spoilt the point that in the end, they're going to be given two songs to put on their debut single.
Now, about that debut single, apparently there were four tracks available, two were made available for the girls, and two separate for the guys, Evergreen, a former Westlife track, and Anything Is Possible, written especially for the occasion.
I, too, tuned into RI:SE every day to see who was going to win - but I really thought it was going to be Guarini rather than Clarkson, which shows how bad I am at judging these things.
The one difference (and don't kill me for this) between the British and American female contestants is a lot of the Americans are stereotyped as massive (sometimes even OTT) voices, with equally massive egos. Can't say it's true, never met an American pop-star before, but I don't see it.
Besides, M@, I'm not watching for the contestants. I'm watching for the constant b!tchfighting between Geri Halliwell, Pete Waterman and Louis Walsh (I'm just glad they didn't have Simon Cowell in for this series, hmm).
Anyway, tomorrow is being released Will Young and Gareth Gates' version of "The Long And Winding Road", and, having heard it many many times already, I have to say I'm looking forward to its stint at number one. I just totally love the song.

Lol - yep - me too really. I have to say, those Transilvanien girls had some nerve going back for another go. They were terrible!! If you watched it yesterday Bobo - did you see that lad who Geri and Louis liked, but Pete didn't - he sang Runaround Sue? I thought he was fantastic and Pete needs his ears checked sometimes when he hears these people!
