Subject: Future Stars Of Tomorrow
If anyone has seen "American Idol" on Fox (and who hasn't-other than me), you know there are only four contestants left for the big prize of fame, adulation, and embarrassment. So other than anyone that sang on this show, what are some new talent that you think will become future superstars. And I don't mean comeback stars like Bon Jovi or The Monkees. ;)

Hey navigator, i have to be honest, i think that so far the people that have performed on American Idol have so much in their favor, like good looks and personality. I guess its hard for me to say, because i grew up listening to great singers and these days i haven't really heard a singer that has impressed me. Notice the next time you listen to the radio, all of the singers sound the same. Why? Because they're all just trying to be something that they're not. One wants to be the next Whitney or Mariah, and they end up sounding the same as someone else who wants to be like whitney. And to top it off, now a days notice that all the singers are kids, 16, 18, even 24. Not that its a bad thing, just that i have seen older people who sing very well and they don't get a chance to show the world becuase they are too old, and thats not fair. I believe everyone should get a chance to sing no matter how old they are.
The point: In this decade, its not about entertaining anymore, its about competition.

I agree music has lost some of its creativity over the last 5 years. Music is catered to a different audience now(mostly teen's). I'm not really feeling today's music at all. A few songs are ok but most of the songs on the radio have very little substance. I remember like 7 years ago my Mom was into the music scene even. Now she really doesn't like any of today's music and neither do I. All the music lacks creativity nowaday's and meaning nowaday's. However record sales are down drastically the last 2 years. I think that shows from the bland and boring music scene lately. I think were due for some kind of techno trend(as scary as it sounds). On the 80's board somebody said the techno trend is already "in".

I agree with you, Queen, up to a point. But I think everyone is looking for 'talent' in the wrong medium. If these so-called talent gurus would go to a live bar or a local studio, or even look through newspapers and read articles on local talent, then they would find it. All you get on television is more paper doll singers and groups that appeal to teens. If the media really cared about what adult listeners think, then we'd be reading about adult music (no offense to the teens out there). But I agree a lot of musical powers are just in it for the money. :(

I do too. I know that a good bit of the members here are musically talented, and I'm also an aspiring musician (but won't be getting that contract for a while, I'm kind of a beginner).

Really Junior? Oh that's right, you take band. What do you play? I forgot.
I play bass guitar myself. I can play most songs on Green Day - Internation Superhits album. ;)

I'm a percussionist -- drums, bells, that kind of stuff. We got some weird stuff in the percussion section too, not to mention some weird percussionists in my band class... ::)
So, when I go proffesional ;), I'll probably either be a drummer/percussionest, keyboardist, or a DJ, depending on when I get motivated enough to buy the equipment and start taking lessons. ;) ::)

Wanna start a band? All we need is a lead guitarist. ;D

I have to disagree with the point made that Bon Jovi is a "Comeback Band"......they've never gone away...the band has been producing multi-million selling albums since 1983....not one album has sold less than a million copies...Studio album #8 coming soon to a record store near you...

I've played guitar before, but quit after three lessons (Damn calaces!) ::)

And I can do piano, if needed! I wish I could learn the guitar, but I can't.

And I disagree on that assertion, because Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora started solo careers. And Bon Jovi tried acting. They both said that they had no intention of reforming the group Bon Jovi in the 90s. So, they would be considered a comeback band in that instance.
I still say for real talent, try live stage bars and indie records.

Hey ,
Watch out for the soon to be released album 'Mesmerized' it's by my husband. He was on Stars In Their Eyes as David Bowie in 1993 but he is a singer/songwriter in his own right. He also plays 12 string acoustic and keyboards
Oh, his name?
PAUL HENDERSON
