Geez RockNRoll Fan. Not wanting to sound awful but that is why I prefer my solitude. I cannot bear losing anyone that I have become close to. I read about it all the time in the papers and it stills become upsetting.

Me too, Mark. I'm tired of hearing about kids being murdered in Colorado, and the police not doing enough to prevent it from happening again. I think it may be time for you to join a victims' families' support group, or even start your own. I lot of these group would welcome someone like you. I do feel for you and the girl's family. And I hope that another person close to your family doesn't become another statistic. :'(

I'll probably get rapped in the mouth for this, but isn't the notion that the decesed have begun a journey to a much happier and blissful place comforting? Isn't it selfish, self-centered and contrary to your deity's will to wish otherwise?
Why is it so terrible when 'anyone' in the world dies? As we all know, people, animals, plant life, bacteria, etc. are dying all the time. Why is it so wrong? I'd think that death is merely a part of life.
IMO the real tragedy of a young life cut short is the loss of potential. What would this person have grown-up to be? Who knows. Perhaps another Einstein or a Pasteur? Perhaps not.
Does anyone feel the same sense of loss and grief for those whom our military kills in the name of self defense in distant lands? Executed criminals? I could go on... These are people who have mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters as well, and are loved no less. Isn't ALL life valuable, or only the lives we deem as possessing value? Furthermore, what constitutes, in your view, a valuable life and why?
I mean no disrespct to you R&R in your time of healing, but I find some of the statements on this thread (and in various others) rather inconsistent and hypocritical and it was making my teeth hurt.

None taken, Davester. Everyone feels differently and deals differently with death. The difference IMO, is that when someone close to me dies...or it effects someone close to me, then yes I am going to feel different then say, someone I never knew...like a killer getting the death penalty. Everyone has family that cares about them but not all people care about everyone that dies...am I talking in cirles yet!? I'll give you an example....when Blaine died my wife was going to a mormon church....people from there that we didn't know were nice and all but since she has seen the light and stopped attending, they don't call her to see how she is or anything. Meanwhile, A very good friend I met here on this board continues to share her feelings with us and we are able to help her as well. I KNOW Blaine is probably happy in some other dimension but YES I am selfish becuse it hurts his brothers and all of us so much that he's not ever coming back to us here. You were right on when you said that it's not seeing thier full potential, although I sometimes feel like Blaine was the one who packed 45 years or so into 17....I sometimes felt HE was MY father ;) It will continue to hurt (His Absence) but I will continue..through the help of real freinds, to move forward and look back fondly on his life, and feel great that at least we got to enjoy our shining star for a while........

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I actually had a very nice visit with Amanda's mom today. It was very weird being on the other side and not being the victims parent...now I understand just how uncomfotable the situation was for all the people last year, who came to my house after Blaine died.
