Subject: Does Anyone Like the Idea of Taxing Fast food?
I Never like the Idea of more taxes, and I believe a sin tax on fast food is uncalled for. Just goes to show what can happen when a lobbying group gets there way, First they tax Cigarettes to ridiculous levels, and now that these health nuts have one that battle, their targeting fast food.
Whose to say what food is healthy, and what foog is unhealthy. Jujubees and Mike and Ike have no fat, should they be taxed? Avocatos and olives are high in fat, should they be taxed?

The health nuts have messed up all the good snack foods anyway.>:( I mean what exactly is the idea of a low sodium pretzel? ??? Has anybody actually seen a pretzel with salt on it anywhere in the last 10 years....? Please please tell me where to find one... :'(

it makes sense, but only because it's a business and they get taxed so therefore they have to tax on their food.

One of the problems with salt substitutes (e.g. KCl - Potassium Chloride rather than Sodium Chloride, it's marketed as "Lo-Salt" over here) is that nobody actually knows what the long-term consequences of replacing excess NaCl in the diet with KCl.
But then again, I've never seen a pretzel with Sodium on it - I guess it'd fizz and burn up quite quickly ;-)

You know I'm against it.
I love the double-talk too, w/this nonsense. They say they want to "discourage" people from buying such taxed things by making the price higher (w/o actually banning it), and turn around and say the taxes are going to fund all the "health problems" emanating from the taxed items.
I.e., you can't win! They say they want you to stop smoking/eating "bad" food, but they want your money from buying them to fix problems related to it! They're hoping you WON'T die early and will KEEP buying these things just so you can keep paying for others' health problems! If you die early, or if you just quit, then there's less money in the till for the other "victims" - and the gov (don't think they're going to keep all the money just for those purposes)! It's a vicious cycle. They're afraid to just ban something (as well they should be), but not against playing this catch-22.
We have way too much time on our hands and way too little to worry about in this society. I'm convinced people need something to complain about and be scared of, so since we're so soft and well-off, these false boogie-monsters are raised up for lack of real problems.

Exactly the problem w/a lot of these "scares", incidentally. They know squat. Then 10 years later they tell us it's good for us. Just ignore them all.
But I do know 1 of the short-term consequences of KCl - that stuff is NAAAASSTY! It BURNS right thru your tongue! :o I couldn't believe it the 1st time I had to use it at a house where provisions are sparse - no real salt - I thought I had acid in the bottle instead, and it would eat thru my tongue and cheeks! :o Talk about lasting impressions!

Here in Canada, we have had the GST - goods and services tax - for several years. Basically, the tax applies to pretty much everything from toilet paper and shampoo to hair cuts and fast food. There are some exceptions to this tax like items for babies and such but pretty much everything else is subject to the 7% tax. However, four times a year, the Canadian government reimburses Canadians with a Goods and Services credit - which is calculated by your income, number of dependents, etc. BIG WHOOP >:( I haven't received one in a couple of years but let's not even go there. All I'll say is that the tax sucks and if you oppose it - let your government know.

This makes me mad. >:(

Fast food is taxing enough!

I don't buy fast food or smoke and very rarely drink alcoholic drinks - and these products are taxed? What? Me worry? ;D
