Subject: WinMx vs. Music Morpheus

Written By: Sagnastian on 07/07/02 at 11:07 p.m.

Ok, so I know everyone knows audiogalaxy is gone.  So my question is, what are you using now?  If you're using one of these two programs or trried them both what do you prefer?
I been using WinMx and audiogalaxy.  I've tried Morpheus and I really don't care for it.  It seems like I never can get connected and if I ever do, it would probaly take like an hour or so.  Besides, ,on the music sharing file, morpheus doesn't have that directory thing where you can split your music into different directories and find them easier.  In WinMx I have 8 directories of songs shared.  A total of 182 shared files as of now.
My question is what do you prefer and why?

I have never used Morpheus, but I do use WinMX all the time. I like it.  When someone mentions File-sharing software in a news report WinMX is strangley abscent, some how the spotlight doesn't shine on winMX. Also thier is no spyware with WinMX. I don't know if morpheus had spyware attached or not, but I have heard rumors.

When Morpheus released v2, it turned into just another gnutella clone, so I've switched to kazaa (even though it causes explorer to gpf when the virus checker's running - it must be trying to do something naughty, IMO)

I don't use my file sharing/downloading tool to organize my files: once downloaded, they get stuck into one of a couple of dozen directories - just counted and found I have 666 files in my sorted music... is this an omen?

Like Screwball, I'm in the habit of using WinMX exclusively.  Audiogalaxy was my 'failsafe' in case I could not locate a particullar song on WinMX.  Morpheus was my first file sharing program after Napster went belly-up.  IMO, one of the best features of WinMX, besides the abundance of files available, is the ability to choose the bitrate of the file you wish to download, as well as it's ability to shut down upon completion of all transfers.  I think it's the closest to Napster there is.

I had Morpheus for a stint. It has spyware. There was something else about Morpheus that was screwed-up, but I blocked it out. Bearshare, Kazaa have spyware too. WinMx does not have spyware and it's alright. Better than nothing.

Morpheus sux as far as I'm concerned.  Since they changed their system to use gnutella, it's been awful to use.  I like WinMX, but for some reason, it does seem to want to use up all of my available bandwidth when running.  I've had it throw my radio station offline, and that, running from a differetn machine!

If you want a good proggie, use Kazaa Lite.  It's Kazaa, but without the spyware.  Grab it at www.kazaalite.com

There's also eDonkey, and Direct Connect, but I don't like those as much.

Yeah, and as I mentioned in a post in 'System Announcements" the updated WinMX actually shut me down.
Have you played around with the bandwidth throttle on WinMX?  I wonder if that would help.
