Subject: Baseball Legend Ted Williams Is Dead at 83

Written By: Indy Gent on 07/06/02 at 07:24 a.m.

Ted Williams, considered by some baseball historians as the greatest baseball hitter ever, died yesterday after a lengthy illness. He was 83. Williams was the last man to hit .400 or more in a season, and served in WW2 and the Korean War a total of 5 years. He spend his entire baseball career with the Boston Red Sox. "The Splendid Splinter" will be missed. :'(

It is indeed a sad moment in baseball.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fans. :'(

R.I.P. Ted

Very sad indeed :'( Just a few months ago we were watching a tape of the '99 All-Star game featuring him.  What a great man as well as a baseball player.  Also to hit a home run in his last at bat...cool!  Didn't he end up hitting .407 one season...I don't think anyone will ever hit .400 for a season again, although my Rockies Larry Walker & Todd Helton came close a few years back.  Ted Williams personified class....he will be missed :(
