Subject: Sir Mick Jagger - arise !
Well she finally did it !
All thos years of writing letters to the Queen have finally paid of for Zella.
To get Zella off her back once and for all, the Queen's Birthday Honours List contains a :
Sir Mick Jagger
Presumably for services to most women this side of the....Oops...for services to music !
Well done Zella....Um....Mick !
FussB ;D

If a Stone should get a knighthood it should be Keith. Except he would not accept it if they offered. Mick is soooo bourgeoise.... ::)
Mick is not the Stones. He just thinks he is. :(

Sooooorry! I may be a big Stones fan, but I cannot stand Mick personally. The Stones are the sum of their parts, rather than a creation of a particular individual. And I always preferred Ronnie or Keith, or even Bill.
And this just made me think -- Friday the 14th was the 27th anniversary of my very first Stones concert! :)

You are quite right of course Zella !
Somehow I can't see Bill (Smith) Wyman ever getting a gong !
I'm going to re-name the thread - surely someone else has something to say about this ?
Fuss :)

I don't think he should have been knighted. For what..being over fifty and still flapping those lips (and other parts :o) about like a twit. I am sorry, but isn't he too old to still be chasing the young women...and what do they see in him? ewww. But that's just my opinion. ;D

Well when I first saw the title, I thought you were talking about one of his ex-wives trying to get him erect :- At his age that would probably be quite a task ;)

Mick Jagger - arse? Shouldn't that be SIR Mick Jagger - arse if nothing else?
Subject: Re: Sir Mick Jagger - arise !
I would just like to take that ceremonial sword and whack both his heads off!

I tend to agree with you, dagwood. I don't know what he is or has done to deserve an "honor" like that. Sure, he is/was a big rock star...so? ::)
I dunno, no offence to anybody, but it just seems like they'll knight darn near anybody these days. What are the requirements anyway? At least when they knighted Elton John, I could see some redeeming qualities there. He's a singer as well, but he also has done a lot of speaking out for charities and so forth. That and being Diana's friend probably didn't hurt.. ;)
I just have to wonder does knighting really mean anything, or is it just like getting a star on the Hollywood walk of fame? Just curious is all. ???

No need to delve into self pity. That type of woman is not worth it. Speaking from a female point of view...I don't care how famous or rich he is....eeewwwwww.

Knighthoods are usually awarded for some kind of distinguished service to the British Empire; Jagger's been an outstandingly popular entertainer for 40 years. Mind you, I think the whole band should have received the award, if it had to be given to anyone.

That's a kind of dated viewpoint - the British Empire's not been around for a while now, so the current crop of knights can't have done too much for it. Personally, I don't see any harm in it once you realize that knighthoods are an outdated institution (rather like Jagger, actually, so maybe it's suitable after all)
Phil
PS All this talk of Sir Mick reminds me of an "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" round where they had to come up with names of knights, e.g.
The electrical knight: Sir Kit Breaker
A knight to remember: Sir Mon on the Mount
The avaricious knight: Sir Vissnot Included
...maybe it's worth having a quiz thread...
