I don't like rock and punk being lumped together, because real rock is just miles and miles ahead of punk. I cannot stand punk. But overall, judging on most people I know, I would say that those results sound pretty right. Hip hop is the cool thing at the moment so people (my age especially) are bound to like it, and pop is always popular with teenyboppers.
I don't like the standards of music at the moment, it all sounds the same. There seems to be very little originality as well. I don't like the whole pop industry how everything is done for the "artists", all they have to do is sing the songs, bare their breasts or toned bodies, and they're world famous. Where's the heart in that sort of music? It's all about the money.

You mean 5% of teenagers admitted to listening to country music? I mean, man, what is the world coming to?

LOL!! ;D
The only time I listened to country music was when our family was on a "road trip" and that's what they played in the car!! Egads, I couldn't stand most of it! But, luckily that all changed in the 7th grade when I got a walkman..... ;)
Subject: Re: Teens & Music Survey Results - The Way It Is T
I like every kind of music (with the exception of country), so I'd like to mix these all together.
Subject: Re: Teens & Music Survey Results - The Way It Is T
You mean to make one massive amalgamation of musical styles within a single individual piece? That's given me something CHALLENGING to do before I get to sleep tonight, thanks!

Next to rap music.

LOL. My cousin loooves the Dixie Chicks. I should show this page to her just to watch the look on her face.
...I'm pure, I assure you ;)
Rock and punk grouped together? I disagree with that too. Not only is rock completely different than punk, but there are so many different kinds of rock and different kinds of punk. For instance there's horrible punk-pop like Sum41, there's the Sex Pistols (not my cup of tea, but if you like it, the power to you), and music with punk incorporated into it like my darling Pixies.
The majority of teens like hip-hop? Aww...and I thought I was in on all pop culture.

Teens from where? The US? I guess it doesn't matter anyway. I mean, the British actually buy albums by the son of Julio Iglesias, and they, IMO, are always on the forefront of good music. We are doomed! Personally, I wonder what the 4% (listed as "other") listen to (Futurist noise like Einsturzende Neubauten and The Legendary Pink Dots?).

Unfortunatly, my mother has bought the Enrique Iglesias album - arghh, I can't stand it! But other then that, I do see what you mean about the British being the forefront of good music - it has been like that for years. Until the teen pop thing kicked in - then all the little kids started to buy music and now look what the woorld has come to!
I think I'd be in the 4% 'other' category - with my choice being a tie between soft rock/indie or new wave. I'm so in the minority! I like some new music - but no way could i listen to one genre forever, and if i had to it wouldn't be any of those mentioned.
:)

I'm sure Disco, Oldies, New Wave, Foreign, Opera, Classical, etc. are all part of it.

I'm suprised 6% voted for Gospel. I thought it would be like 2% for Gospel Music. 23% for Pop is dissapointing. 23% still like Pop? Most of the Pop is junky music. Britney Spears come on now? The girl is so played out now. 27% of hip hop is dissapointing. The only good hip hop artists are The Neptunes, and Outkast. Ludicras and Ja Rule are the worst rapppers. 6% for R&B shows the decline of that Genre: Aaliyah and Left Eye's death have sent interest in R&B down the tubes. Ashanti is just a quick fix and won't last that long. Add in the R. Kelly debacle too. The only good R&B artists are Faith Evans, Usher, Angie Stone, and Alicia keys(good but overrated.) As for 17% for Rock Music that genre is going the wrong way. All the good bands don't get enough airplay and the crappy bands get fame and glory. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?

I have to agree with you on everything except the your hip-hop insight. I think Ludacris and Ja Rule are great rappers, along with The Neptunes and OutKast, but OutKast is definitely the best of the 4. Then again, there are very few rappers I dislike.
"Word" on "All the good bands don't get enough airplay and the crappy bands get fame and glory." with the exception of a few bands (Green Day, Good Charlotte, a few others), this is totally true.

Not only do we have to contend with the insipid teen pop, but also the with take-over and high-jacking of metal-rap on the airwaves. "Enough is enough already," I sez. "When are we ever going to hear some REAL music on the radio." New Wave is my main source of listening pleasure. Anything from that genre is up for grabs. It's kind of weird though, some of the bands that are labeled New Wave don't necessarily fit into that category (The Go-Go's and The Cars? Since when?). And then I'm told time and time again about "Industrial," "Darkwave," and "Gothic" forms of music, which, at the time these bands were played such terms didn't exist (at least on my side of the pond). All New Wave to me or in a more general term "Synthpop."
I didn't know you were from England. British accents are way cool. I would piss off a Brit on purpose just to hear them cuss in that accent (it certainly added points to being a Spice Girl...).

I know what you mean about bands bei ng classed as 'new wave', even when they weren't really, but were just around during the highest popularity of the genre. I do like bands such as the Go-Go's and The Cars, along with a alot of synth pop so I rounded off the genre by sticking to 'New wave' :). Similarly, bands such as The Jam are classed as 'Punk' - but they're not a punk band at all!
So you like the British accent then? When I went to the States on holiday ( New Jersey) to visit my friend, all of her friends were going crazy, claiming that they really loved it. I seriosuly don't understand why! A soft Welsh or Irish accent does it for me ;)
Subject: Re: Teens & Music Survey Results - The Way It Is T
Accents are awesome! The European ones, although I guess I like the Australian one too (seen Breaker Morant one too many times). English spoken with an accent sounds so poetic. It's not only the Brits and Aussies, but the French, the Italians, the Germans, the Scandianvians (hmmm), and the Eastern Europeans (double hmmm). Like I said, it's an asset for a person to have such a way talking, in my book.
Irish accent? My ear isn't trained well, but it almost sounds like the way the Scots speak it. It's still cool, IMO. One of my favourite films of all time is Gregory's Girl and I make sure to have the DVD set to the "Scottish" English (I'm not kidding. The company actually dubbed the film from Scottish English to English English - try saying that three times!).

I think HipHop is not like it use to be ten years ago. Can't understand why kids keep listening to it, think this new generation of kids have outgrown the hiphop fad all in all. It just doesn't go anymore, lol its too 90s!

Now, now. ;) Some of us like country, and it's not all twang and loser songs. As a matter of fact, you've probably heard a lot of the pop/country on your pop stations. ;)
