I'm pretty sure that someone came forward several years ago and admitted to faking the most publicized ones. I think I'm going to google it to be sure.....

Yes, I agree. A very cleverly planned, and well-executed hoax. And even better yet, a series of them, and a "unspoken" cultural phenomenon of people who saw the crop circles, and decided to make their own.
