Subject: This Won't Spoil My Coffee, Will It?
Written By: apollonia1986 on 06/28/15 at 12:22 pm
Hey Y'all!
So, every morning, to avoid committing murder, I have a nice hot cup of coffee.
And in an effort to keep it hot longer, since I'm on my laptop a good 15 hours out of the day, I set my cup --I always make it in a red Dixie cup-- right near the little vent on the side of the computer where warm air comes out. It does keep my coffee hot until the last drop, sometimes an hour later. (I have to drink it slowly or I get a migraine.)
But what I wonder is, is it safe to do this? It isn't ruining my drink for me, is it? I only use instant crystals, non-dairy creamer and sugar. Sometimes a splash of vanilla syrup.
I only ask because some days while drinking the coffee I have the urge to throw up. And I have switched brands three times and it still happens occasionally. That's the only downside. (But it never happens when I buy coffee from places like DD or Starbucks)
Just curious. Thank you!

Why not use real coffee and a actually cup made to hold hot liquid?
Also why not try google first. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120930181830AAmXlOj

Yeah, I'm not real sure that making it in a red plastic cup isn't what is causing you get nausous. Do you microwave it in the cup too? I only use those red Solo cups for cold drinks.

The company makes a hot cup but the red and blue ones are only for cold drinks.
At least the Internet is good for laughs.
One site has a person asking about drinking hot tea from plastic cups for over a year and wanting to know if it's safe. My two fave comments...
"You're gonna die tomorrow"
&
"I'm sure the liquid plastic is giving your insides a nice shiny gloss"
;D
Tiff you are not gonna die tomorrow but considering the chemical in a plastic cup you are probably doing even more damage to your body. Knowing your issues I don't know that's if smart adding more complications on top
Of your pre-existing ones.
One site says the chemicals released in a plastic cup
Can cause structural damage to your brain. Perhaps that's the cause of your migraines

I'm only using the red solo cups because the mug I usually use got broken. This is just a replacement until I can buy another one.
And my migraines are caused from a combination of my high blood pressure, high anxiety and stress. Although I have learned the hard way that drinking coffee too quickly can cause one. It caused the worst one I ever had a few months ago. If I could, I'd just make iced coffee, but I haven't found a method that really tastes good. So I have to drink it hot and drink it slowly. It's the only way I can get caffeine in my system. I can't have energy drinks. The potassium would kill me. And the treatment for too much potassium makes you wish you'd just had the heart attack.
But I'll look into these other options too. I wonder why I never bought an MJ mug... ::)

Apparently you wanted a different answer from the one u got. So let's try that again.
No, pouring hot liquid into a plastic cup that is not designed to hold hot liquid, and then putting it in front of a heater to continue to keep it hot...for hours... (So that all the chemicals from the inside of the cup have time to properly mix with the liquid inside of it), will have absolutely no affect on your coffe (or your health) whatsoever.
Does that help?

I have taken to drinking only water when at the computer (due to help reasons), and drinking warm water is still refreshing.

It keeps your coffee hot during the wintertime and cool during the summer.

I think it just keeps your hot drinks hot and your cold drinks cold
I don't think the seasons have anything to do with it. ;)
