Now I'm slobbering for apple pie ala mode.  It's best if you can get the pie piping hot and the ice cream right next to it before it melts.  The ice cream should be vanilla, but it can be chocolate chip.  You don't want a strong-flavored ice cream, like mint, because it might overwhelm the milder apple-cinnamon flavor of the pie.

Ice cream is my favorite dessert because something cool refreshes the palate after a hot meal. 

My favorite dessert of all time is ice cream cake with Oreo cookie crumb crust and hot fudge.  Steak houses do it best!
