Where's the french toast option!

Out of habit I choose pancakes but I love all three equally

I love both but I think pancakes are a bit tastier.

I argued with the waitress at Friendly's because she said I couldn't order eggs and toast after 11:00, but I could order French toast!

Breakfast should be served all day at every restaurant that serves breakfast!

Argument for Team Pancake: "Pancakes can be made on any flat surface, but waffles require a waffle iron, which is a comparatively fancy piece of single-tasking kitchen equipment."

Argument for Team Waffle: "Pancakes can be made on any flat surface, but waffles require a waffle iron, which is a comparatively fancy piece of single-tasking kitchen equipment."

On balance, I'll go waffle.  The extra surface area = more crunch = more space for toppings.  If locked in a room with nothing but one unit of batter, a griddle, and a waffle iron, I'd pour the batter into the waffle iron.

Or, you know, there's always French Toast.

I prefer waffles, I even have a little waffle iron (which is collecting dust as we speak, because I never buy the mix)

You must not have had really good French toast. It makes a difference

The same with me. We sometimes make our own pancakes on the griddle; we have various recipes to choose from, including one involving pumpkin and walnuts (which my mom cooked a couple mornings ago).

I am very picky when it comes to anything involving egg recipes.
My parents would sometimes make it while I was growing up, and from what I remember, the bread would often be covered in a thick layer of egg.

Certainly. I have had several different kinds of French toast and enjoyed 'em all. In fact, since 1998 we have baked a particular cranberry-apple French toast to have on New Year's morning; we found this particular recipe in the L.A. Times in late 1997 and decided to try it. So we did, and enjoyed it so much that we wanted to make it every year for our New Year's "brunch"; it has become a tradition for us.

Best French toast I've ever had was from Du-Par's in LA.  They make a damn good pancake too.

There used to be a restaurant with that name near my house (although it had been Bakers Square previously), but they went out of business not too long ago... perhaps due to being so pricy. However, I have eaten there a couple times and enjoyed the food.

Waffles..love the crunch. Pancakes are fine but something about a waffle says special to me. Especially if it has nuts in the mix, or really good extras for ingredients, blueberries, bananas, dried cherries, pumpkin, or savory ones with bacon, ham, cheese (sorry Q I know what you think of cheese).. :)

There are a couple in the la area and at least one I found accidentally in San Diego.

Perhaps the one in T'Oaks just didn't get enough business. It's not that expensive. It does cost a little more than Denny's or Ihop but the food is a million times better.

Also...they ate at Dupars in an 80s flick....I think it was Valley Girl

Yup... This is the one my friends and I always go to during paleyfest

I remember there being one in T. Oaks, right near the Oaks Mall (I could see it from the freeway), but I am aware that it, too, is gone.

Always have them on Shrove Tuesday and at times when there is nothing else to eat, pancakes make a handy snack.

Shrove Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday) is also called Pancake Day in the U.K.  This custom is unknown in the U.S.

You're talking about diner-style pancakes, which I call griddle cakes or flapjacks.  We used to make the thin French-style pancakes you make crepes with and whatnot.  Of course, my old man would eat a stack of thirty and go back for seconds, which I thought was a revolting indulgence!

Pancakes. Never cared for waffles-but I can eat them if I don't have a choice.

Oh, and I do love French toast, too.

But the all MUST have Grade B maple syrup-the REAL stuff. Not that fake stuff that they try to pass off as maple syrup.
