Subject: I miss...

Being away from home for as long as I have been, you would think that I would be over missing some of the things only available in Canada. Not bloody likely. There are so many foods and treats that I miss that it would take well over 24 hours for me to list them all. ;D
So to start, I will say that these are my most missed favourite items:

The list could go on and on!!
And yes, I realize that shave gel isn't food - but I miss it nonetheless. 8)
Do you miss anything you can't get in the area you are currently living?

Even tho they still make this its impossible to find inSantaBarbara
The only store that sold it in Az went out if business 5 yrs ago. I learned in October that a store near my mom now carries it so its not as obscure as its been....but they also changed the recipe a few years back so it's not as good as it used to be....it's still god but not authentic.
I cruised 44 pages of images on my phone trying to find the original label/jar from when it was good but couldn't. The jar with the burgundy label.

I only had them once or twice from an Asian food store...they are soo good. They're dry and sugar-coated.

I miss the taste. I like Coco Puffs better.
What's that crack about Tundra! It's not a tundra here all year round. You should come to Canada on July 9th. Snow changes to rain that day. Sometimes the rain lasts until July 10th :o

What I miss was something called Jungle Juice. It was a brand of fruit juice sold at Becker's Convenience stores. The Orange flavour had a mascot named O.J. Lion. A 500ml carton was only 75c. I used to load up on that stuff.

I really miss fresh tart cherries. I can only find them in the produce aisle for a short time twice a year and I get so giddy! I love them. I even find myself cruising the ice cream topping aisle for marichino cherries (when I haven't had my fresh cherries in awhile.) ;D
I haven't quite brought myself to buying cherry pie filling yet... but I've come close. ;D

I miss the "Flamingo" brand of Butter Tarts. The ones that are commonly sold now are Granny's Butter Tarts as made by Vachon, and they are good, but I miss Flamingo.

Spree are a tart candy made mainly of compressed dextrose with a mildly sweet fruit-flavored shell. Pretty much the same crap as SweeTarts. Well, they're purportedly of different flavors, but they all taste about the same. They're more color than flavor! What I noted about them when I was a kid was the ingredients were composed of nothing I could recognize from the grocery store. Just stuff I imagined in 55-gallon drums on a freight train. But I loved Spree all the same!

I miss the bubble gum you used to get when you bought a pack of baseball or hockey cards. Unless is was hard a broke up into 20 pieces when you opened the pack.
Don't forget Star Wars cards!
I remember the stick of gum would crumble in the cold. If you walked home with the pack in your jacket pocket when it was 10° Fahrenheit, yeah...

I miss the warehouse type soda companies where you could pick out what flavors you wanted. Two by me were Glen Rock and Black Bear (still around I think). My dad took my sister, brother and I and we loved it. You would go to the place grab a shopping cart and a big wooden crate. We'd walk around the warehouse and grab bottles of flavors we wanted like strawberry, pineapple, orange, cherry, root beer, etc, My favorite was/still is lime. They were smaller bottles and I remember having to "split" one with my brother or sister. That's back when (1970s) kids didn't drink soda everyday. The crate full of bottles last for a couple of months. Soda was a treat for after supper or when company came over. We could never have it with a meal. Today you see people let their kids have it for breakfast (yuk!) at restaurants.

A local flea market in my area had some old unoppened Topps Waxpacks from 1987. The gum was so old, not only was it hard as a rock, but I had to peel it off one of the cards.

I bought a box of boo berry last week. It really doesn't taste the same! :(
What does it taste like now? I might have to buy a box and hide it away from my parents cause we're trying to eat healthier and they don't want heavy sugared cereals now.

A ham & cheese sandwich from a place in Corinth, Greece. I know it sounds strange-just a ham & cheese sandwich but these were to DIE for. It was the bread-which was more like a pastry. And they grilled it. I always had it with a slice of tomato. MAN! There were SOOOOO GOOD!!! I have never had a ham & cheese sandwich before or since like that.
And I also miss a pita from Greece. Most people in this country know them as gyros but the ones I have had in this country are nothing like the real authentic ones from Greece.

Why don't these cereals taste like they should? Like Frankenberry should taste like strawberry, Count Chocula should taste like chocolate and Boo Berry should taste like blueberries? ???

I miss Waffle Crisp cereal. For drinks it would definately be Sprite Remix and Pepsi Blue. :)
