Subject: Tooth (ache) Friendly Foods

Written By: apollonia1986 on 05/31/11 at 4:25 pm

Hi Y'all!

I'm hoping that someone out there could help me. For about a week, my father has been suffering from a toothache off and on and it's really put a damper on his ability to eat.
I was wondering do any of you know of any food/recipies that my father might be able to chew? He has a surgery coming up in about a week--not tooth related--and I wanted to make sure I could get as many good and healthy meals into as I can to help build his strength up.

Please help!

Thank you.

PS--Daddy won't touch Jello. He saw how it was made on Food Net and swore off it right then.

Cottage cheese, it has a lot of protein and calcium for healing.  Perhaps goulash, or a pasta dish where the noodles are soft and the ground beef is cooked fine...

Homemade Chicken noodle soup?

My daughter just ate applesauce and a turkey sandwich.  She chipped her front tooth yesterday, tomorrow hopefully they fix it!

No matter what you do it will ache until he gets to a dentist.  The problem is food will always find it's way into the cavity.

...or worse, and he has some sort of abscess (infection) in his mouth and if that's so, they will not operate.  He should check it out before surgery, or at the very least, mention it when he's going in.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I don't know if I can get dad to a dentist. He's stubborn as a mule and won't do anyhting no matter how loud I yell.  >:( If he goes to the doctor, he goes, if not, well I just hope for the best. I bought a bunc hof soup for him, and hopefully that'll help.

Just remember, or in case you weren't aware, they have linked oral care to heart disease....even if your dad is being stubborn you will want to bring this issue up with his doctors just to be on the safe side.

I find thorough rinsing with salt and water helps a lot with that.  Ibuprofen staves off most pain until I get to the dentist.  I avoid flossing until the dentist okays it.  Flossing could further damage a brittle tooth.

Of course, there were a couple of times I flat out couldn't afford the dentist, so I was SOL.  The pain went away because the nerve died.  I have a nice gap back where that tooth used to be!

Like me if you had your wisdom teeth extracted you'd want to eat soft foods such as applesauce, baby food and soup and then after that you can go back to eating normally.

When well cooked, other vegetables can be mashed too.

I started this thread five years ago. Where Daddy is now, he'll never have to worry about a toothache ever again. And he can eat anything he wants.

But thank you got all the input.
