Subject: Health Food/Diet Food

Well we all know that rice cakes suck.  But for those of you that are trying to watch your waistline, are there any healthy options out there that you've found that actually taste good?

I mentioned in the frozen food section that I actually like Lean Cuisine.  I don't know what they did, but most of their meals are pretty dang good.

Applebees has some really good options in their "Under 550 Calories" section of the menu.  There is a steak, red potato and brocolli dinner that is fabulous.  I would never believe it was under 550 calories if I didn't know better.

I also drink Premier Nutrition protein shakes that I get from Costco.  They have 30 grams of protein in them - WAY more than Slim Fast, and that plus a piece of fruit keeps me full for hours.  It's a perfect breakfast or lunch, and they cost something like $23 for 18, so I'm spending less than $2 per meal.  Not too bad.

Diet food, hmmmmm not sure if I know the concept anymore.  :-\\ I do love the Lean Cuisine Panini's and flatbreads - they are awesome.

I used to LOVE Applebee's LowFat Blackened Chicken Salad (they had it for like 5 years), and then they took it off the menu, haven't cared for anything since (well except Tequila Lime Chicken, but I learned how to make it on my own - and it ain't diet)...

I like baked lays, and baked Dorito's.  Naked fruit smoothie drinks are awesome for lunch, with some cheese or small deli sandwich for protein.  Carrot sticks, I wonder why I don't eat carrot sticks anymore ::)

this is my all time favorite turkey dinner

http://www.leancuisine.com/Products/ProductImage.ashx?ImageType=boxangle&ProductID=10605&width=400&height=331

LC has another turkey dinner but it's not as good...

The best wheat bread I've ever had is Roman Meal. Its something like 70 calories a slice.....

http://www.romanmeal.com/products_bread.aspx    choose this one... Roman Meal Original Multigrain

It tastes like regular bread...

We have a lot of vegans in the Pioneer Valley.  I don't mind them so long as they don't proselytize, which too many of them do, otherwise its no fun to be a vegan!

My buddy's wife is Kosher and vegetarian and so is he...at home.  When she's not around, he likes to stop at Friendly's for a bacon Supermelt!

I used to eat Lean Cuisines all the time (in fact, one time the weight just poured off of me when that was all I was eating). Now, I don't because Carlos does the shopping and he is cheap frugal and doesn't want to pay that much of a microwavable lunch-yup-it would be just lunch because he cooks EVERY NIGHT! He will buy the budget meals (when they are on-sale).

Lately, my diet food is basically veggies. We have a share in a local farm & every week we get a bunch of fresh produce so that is what I have been eating.

Right! A molecule away from being Styrofoam!

Now, it doesn't follow you can eat Styrofoam just because you can eat Reddi-Whip!

Where does that come from, Helen Reddy?  "I am nitrous oxide hear me snore!"

I can't believe I forgot to mention 100 Calorie Snacks!

These things are my lifeline!

It's the only way I can saftely eat cookies and other deliciousness without feeling like I'm going to go berserk and eat the entire package.  And there's a whole variety of options - snack mix, different cookies, and my all time favorite - yogurt covered pretzels.  HELL YEAH.

And don't even get me started on the Oreo Cakesters.  True, they are about the size of a quarter, but it is still and Oreo Cakester, and still fabulous!

If you like yogurt, try Yoplait Daily Delights.  OMG the Lemon Torte taste (to me) just like a Lemon merangue pie (although it has some kind of whipped creme instead of merangue) (no objections from me here)...

http://yoplait.com/delights/images/pic-lemon.png

They have other varities such as raspberry chocolate which I haven't tried yet, caramel parfait sounds good too.  They picture of the product on yoplait's website has the container with a real lemon twist as garnish (but it doesn't actually come with it.)  But they are really lemon-y and are only 100 calories per cup.  yum

My roommate keeps it in the house to put it on these little jello cups she gives to her son.  The other day I told him to stick out his finger (he is almost 3) and I put a little dot on the tip of it.  He was absolutely delighted, and now a finger of reddi-whip is his favorite treat.  :)

I can see that ending in total disaster.  He has already tried to figure out how to squirt it on his finger - unsuccessfully.  I can't even imagine if he figured out how to get it into his mouth.  ;D  Maybe when he's bigger.

That sounds like Granddaughter #1 at the age of 1 & 1/2. We were visiting my SIL (when she lived in L.A.) and she took Bailey by the hand and led her into the kitchen. Opened the refridge and told Bailey to hold out her finger. Thus introducing her to whipped cream on her finger. After, Bailey would grab someone's hand, lead them into the kitchen, point to the refridge and when that was opened, she would point to the can of whipped cream and hold out her finger.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Had another cup this morning when there was actual light coming in the window and discovered what I thought was whipped cream was actually vanilla yogurt (It's still good though), that'll teach me to eat by just the light of the glowing television.  I might actually notice what the heck I'm eating.
