Subject: Pepsi/Mountain Dew Throwback...
Written By: Davester on 01/17/10 at 5:55 am
Just found out about these limited "throwback" sodas - Pepsi and Mountain Dew with retro label designs and made with real sugar. Anyone tried these? Do they taste much different than today's stuff..?

I've been looking all over for this, they had come out briefly in the summer and none of the stores near me were carrying it. >:(

I saw both in grocery stores by me but haven't tried either because I drink diet soda. If I could buy a single can or bottle only then I might try it.

Regular Pepsi show "sugar" on the ingredients list - how are the throwbacks different from the new? No HFCS?

That's my understanding. No HFCS, real sugar, and old school packaging
I've tried both, even though I'm an ardent Mexican Coca Cola follower, and the Mountain Dew was awesome! I'm not saying that lightly either, because I HATE Mountain Dew.

In my humble opinion Throwback is a God sent. As a Dew drinker I find it to be less heavy than the regular Dew. The caffeine plus the sugar is one heck of a buzz if you're not use to it. On a scale of 1 - 10 I think Throwback is a 9. I've also tried the Heritage Dr. Pepper, it's delightful. I have yet to try the Pepsi though. They say they'll stop making the stuff February 22. I hope not!!!

Like the Pepsi Throwback; prefer current Mtn Dew to the throwback.

I am drinking a can of pepsi throwback right now. It first, I noticed a difference between this and regular Pepsi becaue I can taste the difference between Pepsi and coke. It seems a little sweeter and more like coke. Nothing real spectacular about it. I don't do the dew.

Something good about this though, is that Joel can't have anything corn based so he can drink this and it's the closest thing to coke or pepsi he's had in I don't know.

It was interesting to taste what Dr. Pepper tastes like with actual sugar(Pretty good overall). As well as Pepsi(Pepsi with actual sugar is big improvement, just like Mexican Coke) and Mountain Dew(It was alittle bit tart with actual sugar).
Another thing I like is the fact that I don't get hungry from them an hour afterwards.

I like the MexiCoke but haven't been able to justify spending $20 on a case of it at Costco. :P :D

High Fructose Corn Syrup messes with appetite control, something even refined sugar doesn't.

I remember the old Pepsi label, but not the Moutain Dew one. Is it from the 80s too?
I remember the Pepsi one because it was all my mother drank till I made her switch to Coca Cola. Long story, involves Michael Jackson. (best argument I ever won!) :)
If they wanted to do a true throw back theyd have tons of reproductioncans featuring all of the past incarnations of the label.

I've had a couple of the Pepsi Throwbacks so far. Sure beats the current Pepsi.
Can't find any of the Mountain Dew Throwbacks out here.

It's not as good as current Mountain Dew IMO.

Bought a 12 pack of the Mountain Dew, not sure what I was expecting. Truth be told I couldn't tell much difference between the present Mt Dew and the retro version.
I don't remember the cans from that era though (1960's). The only Mt Dew I remember in my youth is getting one at the laundromat now and again and these came in bottles. The cans must have changed sometime in the mid 70's because when I did finally see it in cans, it definitely wasn't the mostly white can this retro version had,the can had more green to it, the little hillbilly I believe was gone, but the lettering kind of looked the same.

For cola, I'm strictly a Coca-Cola man. I don't care what Pepsico is marketing, I'm not interested. Pepsi is wuss cola. If I wanted wuss cola, I'd go for RC. However, RC is hard to find this far north.

R.C. back in the 70's and early 80's was potent stuff. They've changed it so it doesn't have the kick anymore. :(

I don't know what the big deal is about a "throwback" soda. ::)

It's made with sugar and not high fructose corn syrup. Sugar is sweeter than HFCS.

I live in the Finger Lakes region of NY and we still have stores that sell RC. (Wegmans) The Arby's I use to work in use to serve it, but the customers complained so they switched to Pepsi products

I don't know if they stopped making the Pepsi throwbacks, because there's a pile of them at the Walmart here.
:) Wouldn't drink one to save my life. LOL.

I like it. I've had it several times before(same scenario with Mexican Coke).
