That stuff should only be feed to people who are "in the hole", not the whole prison population.
Kind of makes "bread and water" sound desirable.

sounds like it is from the article... I applaud the reporter for making a batch and having a tasting party for a bunch of lawyers.

The "hole" is supposed to be a punishment. The question is does cruel and unusual punishment pertain to unappetizing food? In the article it also said that some people like it.

That looks like the cheap, recycled foam rubber you sometimes find used as carpet padding... either that or the aftermath of someone vomiting a kaleidoscope.
I'd like to see an episode of Iron Chef with that as the ingredient.

As long as the food is made for and fit for human consumption, I'd say no.
