Subject: Drive-ins, Diners, and Dives - Food Network
Written By: AL-B Mk. III on 05/11/08 at 11:25 pm
I started watching this on the Food Network a few weeks back and it's become one of my favorite shows. It's about this chef who travels all over the country and goes to different unique, off-beat restaurants and samples their fare. (Could someone please invent Smell-O-Vision already?) On one episode he went to some bar and grill right here in Kansas City and I ended up checking it out and had a Philly cheese steak that was the best I'd had since I was actually in Philadelphia several years back.
I swear, that guy has one of the coolest jobs ever.

I love that show; just watched it last night. His name is Guy Fieri and he was the winner of the Food Network contest for next new star. He also has another show on Food Network but I don't remember the name of it. He kind of reminds me a liitle of Sammy Hagar.

I LOVE this show. I love mom-and-pop restaurants and the creative dishes that they make. I am so tired of chain restaurants.

Even though I won't eat 99% of the food that is shown on that show, I find it entertaining. He has such a big personality it is contagious.

Is it just me or are these drive-in gormands on The Food Network and Travel Channel afraid to sample Indy food? I can't believe for a second that people would rather travel to Columbus or Amarillo to dine in instead of our great city. If any these "dudes" are seen on any of our famous (and not-so-famous) eateries, let me know. 8)

What is Indy food??? I go to Indianapolis every year for 4 days (FFA National Convention) - I would like to take my students to some fave/local Indianapolis restaurants? What are they

Our specialty is pork tenderloin. Most natives prefer the oversized (bigger than a bun), wafer thin, breaded and fried patty with lost of ketchup, mustard and onion. I've also seen it cooked grilled and tempura style. Pan-fried chicken is also pretty popular.
Also, the rainbow trout is often served in finer dining areas. But most Hoosier like grub food. I'll look further into what other food are Indiana later on. Good luck.

Just three years ago, one episode featured a segment on The Kitchen, an eatery very close to where I live. However, it was later that year when I first went to this eatery...for a networking meeting. I have since eaten there a few times and enjoyed the food I ordered. :) I am also good friends with the owner, whose name is Cathie.

Which diner was I in? ;D
I saw the 2 or 3 episodes where Indy was featured on DDD. Unfortunately, one of these restaurants is no longer in business (the one in SoBro).
Sorry, Howard, I was referring to bookmistress' post.

Recently, however, this restaurant has moved to a new location.... actually, into another restaurant co-owned by the owner's sister (that is, the sister of the owner of the other restaurant); so, they have combined their menu selections!

I think they look more like sweet potato fries, due to the color. You could be right, though.
