Subject: Short-Lived Breakfast Cereals of the Past
Written By: cinnabon on 04/30/08 at 8:18 pm
One of my favorite breakfast cereals when I was a kid was called Krazy Kow - it was similar to Cocoa Puffs except the milk turned chocolatey when you poured it in.
I also remember when Cracker Jack came out with a breakfast cereal in 1984, which was caramel coated Kix-like corn puffs and just like the Cracker Jack popcorn there was a surprise toy inside the box.

I remember "Addams Family" cereal which was around in late 1991/early 1992, when the movie of the same name came out. It contained a lot of sugar, as I recall.
Around the same time, there was an "Urkel O's" cereal based on Steve Urkel, a character from the sitcom Family Matters.

Urkel O's was a real cereal? I never knew that!
Once retro cereal I've been dying to get my hands on is Qwisp. (Quisp?) I saw them talking about it on Food Network and it looked interesting.

Yes, there was even a TV advert for it, with Jaleel White as his Steve Urkel character.

Hidden Treasures, hands-down. I think they came out in like '94/'95 but were only around for like a year.

It was Cap'n Crunch that was shaped like the letter "T." ;D

Cookie Crisp used to have a vanilla sugar cookie flavor that I really liked but didn't last long.

Smurf Berry Chrunch was good too.
Does anyone remember the cereal "Grins, Smiles, Giggles and Laughs"?

Oh man, none of those look partiicularly healthy. lol. Probably better off just having a bar of chocolate for breakfast. Same health value, and cheaper! ;D

Not many of them were. The actual cereal itself in most of them was nutritious, but that's excluding the marshmallows and chocolatey/vanilla or sugar coating ;D

My mom still has the green freaky fridge magnet that is on the front of this box (we had the orange one as well - but I tore the arms off of it sometime). Wow I forgot about Freakies - I had been thinking the magnets were from quisp cereal. My other favorite. But you are right Freakies did rock - I remember sitting around the breakfast table in a sleep induced trance reading the box. I would have never remembered this till you posted this picture. Thanks

I like how it says "The crunchy, sugary, fortified breakfast cereal"
No cereal would ever boast about being "sugary" these days. ;D

When I was a child, Lucky Charms cereal was available in the UK. I also liked a cereal from my teens called Bart Simpson's No Problem-Os. I haven't seen any of these cereals for a long time.
