Subject: What do think of Pizza Hut's new name (to Pasta Hut)?

Written By: cinnabon on 04/19/08 at 4:14 pm

I just saw a pop-up ad over at another website for this and I thought it had to be a joke at first, but its true.  Apparently the reason for this is the rising cost in flour and that their pizza sales have been lagging in recent years.

Oh well, as long as they don't take pizza off the menu altogether, I guess they can call themselves whatever they want, although I bet it will take a lot of people some time to get used to calling them Pasta Hut after being Pizza Hut for the past 50 years.  :o

Surely it takes make flour to make pasta than pizza?

The thing is that they served pasta in their sit-down restaurants of yesteryear. So, I guess they are trying to appeal to those that weren't around then.

I seriously don't think they are gonna throw away 30 years of brand recognition to support a new menu item/advertising campaign.  I think they are just doing it to get attention that they are now serving huge portions of pasta.  I personally don't think it's gonna work either 'cause for that amount of money, most families are gonna have to choose either pasta or pizza (not both).

Apparently it's an April Fools Joke, related to the fact they're serving Pasta now.

It actually might be true,I've been doing some checking and found this

Pizza Hut(R) Remakes Itself As 'Pasta Hut' With Introduction Of New Tuscani Pastas
Chain Will Become World's Largest Pasta Company Overnight
DALLAS, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- After 50 years of delivering great pizza, today Pizza Hut revealed that efforts are currently underway to rebrand the chain as "Pasta Hut" in conjunction with the arrival of its new Tuscani Pastas, which are available starting tomorrow. Speaking to employees at a celebration for the launch of the new pasta offerings, Scott Bergren, Pizza Hut CEO, described the large-scale changes the company has made to support this new direction:

-- All exterior signage at Pizza Hut's Dallas headquarters facility has
been replaced with the new Pasta Hut logo.

-- A national print and television advertising campaign begins today,
proclaiming "Pizza Hut is now Pasta Hut."

-- The company's Web site has been redesigned, including the new URL
http://www.newpastahut.com, the new Pasta Hut logo and a message for
consumers: "Pasta so good, we changed our name to Pasta Hut
Pizza Hut restaurants across the country have begun installing banners
that read "Coming Soon . . . Pasta Hut."

"For 50 years we've been all about pizza," said Bergren. "As we've prepared for the launch of our new line of Tuscani Pastas our customers have consistently told us these pastas are so good we should change our name to Pasta Hut. Starting tomorrow, Pizza Hut is Pasta Hut."

Tuscani Pastas will come in two chef-inspired styles -- Creamy Chicken Alfredo and Meaty Marinara. Both feature Rotini pasta and a delicious blend of sauce and cheese that's added to the pasta before it is oven baked. Each three pound serving of Tuscani Pastas costs $11.99 and includes five freshly baked breadsticks

That sucks.  I had my 9th and 10th birthday parties at Pizza Hut.  We go way back...

The stuffed crust was excellent!  Only pizza where I'd eat the bones and leave the rest.  Well hopefully their pasta will be better than Sbarro...

The last time I was at Pizza Hut, I ordered hot wings with my pizza, but they gave me mild wings by mistake.  Though it didn't really matter to me (but I didn't tell them that), they gave me the mild wings for free and completed my order of hot wings.  I've been going to Pizza hut for years

When I was a kid, my mother got me for my birthday, a Pizza Hut gift certificate for a free personal size pizza.  I was so pleased by the thought of the gift that I didn't have the heart to cash it in, so for nearly 10 years, it stayed tacked to my wall until one night when I was really hungry ;D

Actually, it did.  If I can recall, it expired in 1990.  It was like 1995 when I finally used it and argued the case until they saw it my way (the expiry date was written in very fine print not easily noticible unless one went looking for it)

I don't like the sound of this. What if it backfires like the New Coke did? I mean it just seems really wacky.

That's why I eat at Dominos. What are they gonna change thier name to? Chess? (Checkers is already taken LOL)

We ate at Pizza Hut today, and hubby asked the manager there.  He said that he thought it was just temporary for advertising purposes since they have this new pasta stuff.  I had my usual personal pan (yummy!) (Can't wait to eat the other two slices later for dinner). Hubby had meat sauce spaghetti and you got a good bit of it.  The meatballs were lacking though.  8-P

Well from what I'm reading on the net it's a joke that's got outta of hand because major newspapers and marketing websites are reporting that it isn't an April Fools Joke.

My daughter is disappointed that (around here at least) Pizza Hut is take away only.  She loves the stuffed crust pizza they do but sometimes we want a sit down place to eat.

Around last year I ordered a Veggie Pasta Bake.  When I started to sprinkle red peppers on it the whole thing fell on my pasta.  Cap and all.  The waitress saw what happened and replaced my order.  They apologized and said my order will be on the house.  Which was quite nice of them since what happened wasn't their fault.  More the fault of the previous customers trying to be funny.

Regarding the name change.  I am sure it is just an advertising gimmick.  For as long as I remembered they have always been serving some kind of pasta.
