Subject: Nothing else, thanks
Written By: Windbreaker05 on 03/18/07 at 2:52 pm
I was thinking about certain food items which, while they aren't usually intended for consumption alone, I have eaten or heard of people eating by themselves. I thought it would be fun to see which of these sorts of things everyone has ever eaten without any accompaniment:
So, the survey question is, have you ever eaten unaccompanied...
1. Ketchup?
2. Mustard?
3. Mayonnaise?
4. Grated or shredded cheese?
5. Relish?
6. Salad dressing?
7. Spinach dip?
8. Onion dip?
9. Other dip? (please specify)
10. Peanut butter?
11. Jam or preserves?
12. Marshmallow paste?
13. Any other sort of food that isn't usually intended to be consumed alone? (Please specify)
Not an exhaustive list at all but it should get the ball rolling, anyway.

Oh, I forgot about sugar. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to just pass out, like my sugar is low, so I eat a spoon of sugar. Probably not a great idea, but it peps me right up!

They didn't always make the individual containers, back in the olden days it came in a glass jar. ;)
Actually, I can sort of understand where he's coming from, growing up the only time I ever had applesauce was when my mother fixed pork chops. I wouldn't have eaten it alone back then, it would have been like eating cranberry sauce without the turkey.

Wow!! I just remembered that when I was a kid I'd eat sour cream, plain. My parents used to get it in a glass container, I can still picture in my mind, and I sit at the table with a spoon and just eat away. My parents even have a photo of me doing it, I must have been about 3.

A relish is a cooked or pickled, chopped vegetable or fruit food item which is typically used as a condiment. So, using that definition....cranberry sauce is a relish.
