Subject: Checkers- "Ya Gotta Eat!"
Written By: Echo Nomad on 06/13/06 at 10:34 pm
During my trips to Tampa,Florida I was introduced to my favorite burger joint called "Checkers" which is popular in the south.
It's mainly a drive\walkup burger stand that's decorated 50's style. They have cheap but good food and have in my opinion the best fries (yes, even above A&W :)). Being based in the south, I was estatic to find a "colony" of 4 of them about 50 miles south of me up here in the Quad Cities, and eat there everytime I go there. Is there anyone else who knows of this chain?
The picture below is of the Checkers on The Avenue of the Cities in E.Moline Illinois.

I keep seeing ads for Checkers on TV. Makes me hungry for their food, but since Checkers doesn't exist in Canada, I'd have to travel across the NY State border

Sounds like they're expanding up here then. If they're in New York State they'll probably be in Ontario soon.

Oh, I doubt it. Many restaurants in NY State like Bob's Big Boy, Ihop, Sonic, etc ... have not yet seen light of day here :(

They've been in Philly since the early 90s. Rallys is like a sister restaurant.

We used to have Checkers here in Greensboro, NC for awhile in the mid '90s but they all closed not too long after that. :\'(

Checkers is called Rally's in the northern part of the States. They have similar menu items, much like Hardee's/Carl Jr.'s.

They have Checkers in Louisiana, which are very good (not quite In & Out, but decent). They make awesome banana shakes.

A lot of our channels are DC affiliates, but a lot of the businesses don't exist in our area.. but I was in DC one time and ate at Checkers... I must admit, I was sorely, sorely disappointed.
Sonic was another place that we get ads for that I'd rarely seen, but I really enjoyed them.
