Subject: VH-1 Moving Away from Blaxploitation Programming?
Written By: LyricBoy on 07/20/14 at 10:23 am
I am wondering if there has been a change in strategy at VH-1. For the past 3-4 years the programming has been reality programming mainly based on black stereotypes like "Basketball Wives", "Football Wives", "Badminton Wives", "For the Love of Ray J", "Fantasia for Real" and so on. Also "Love and Hip Hop in Atlanta" and "Single Ladies" which was not 'reality' per se.
But Single Ladies is now cancelled, and the latest three new shows are a Nicole Richie reality show Candidly Nicole (in the first episode she tells a guy he'll be getting a Cleveland Steamer), a dating show "Naked Dating" (needs no explanation), and a Leanne Rimes 8-P reality show (also known by its pilot name, 'Tale of Two Home Wreckers').
(Note: Nicole's show did have one black cast member in the episode I watched... Lionel Ritchie)
Looks like the black-based minstrel shows are running their course at VH-1 and they are now going to programming where people of all races can look like idiots. ;D
Looking at the latest schedule it looks like they're playing the daylights out of "Love and Hip Hop in Atlanta" but it seems they've shifted strategy with the new programs.
Has anybody here heard anything? ???
