Legendary sportscaster (and brother of Bryant Gumbel) Greg Gumbel has passed away at the age of 78 from undisclosed causes. :\'(

In 1973, Greg's brother Bryant, then working as a television sportscaster at KNBC in Los Angeles, informed him that another NBC owned-and-operated station, WMAQ-TV in Chicago, was auditioning for a sports announcer. At the time, Greg was selling hospital supplies in Detroit. ;D
He ultimately got the job, returned to Chicago and worked at WMAQ-TV for seven years. The rest is history. 8)

A buddy of mine used to be a major-market sportscaster, but his career was cut short due to the sudden onset of a disease that kinda disfigured his face. :-\\ Any time a sports figure passes away, you can be sure that he makes a post to Facebook on how they were the best of friends.
Once again he does not disappoint; he posted a photo of him and Greg Gumbel from an NFL playoff game in the early 90s.
My buddy has a sports memorabilia collection that is unbelievable. To say that it is huge is an understatement. You name the superstar athlete and he’s probably got a game-worn jersey or a signed game ball. ;D
