Longtime character actor Charles Cyphers, a John Carpenter vet, has died from a "brief illness" at age 85.
Besides Halloween's beloved Sheriff Brackett, he also played Adrienne Barbeau's husband in Adrienne Barbeau's husband's The Fog; Officer Starker in Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13; the Secretary of State in Escape from New York; and had roles in Roots and Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher.
He appeared as a bachelor on The Dating Game for a chance to court Batgirl Yvonne Craig.
He returned to Haddonfield in Halloween II (1981) and one last time in Halloween Kills (2021).
