Legendary rock ‘n roller Doug Ingle, who both wrote and performed the main vocals for Iron Butterfly’s classic tune In A Gadda Da Vida has shut down his keyboard for the last time at the age of 78. :\'(

Released in June 1968, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida became a multi-platinum triumph, spending 81 weeks in the U.S. Top 10. The album is best remembered for its title track, a sprawling explosion of psychedelic rock – written by Ingle – which originally lasted over 17 minutes in length. The radio version of the song, trimmed down to a tidy three minutes, became a Top 40 hit and remains one of the most influential tunes of its era. In the decades since its release, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" has been covered by everyone from Slayer to The Simpsons. 8)
Sadly Mr. Ingle was the last survivor of the band’s classic 1967–1969 lineup, so a reunion tribute tour will not be in the cards. :-\\

The original title of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida " was "In The Garden of Eden". Due to the slurring way Ingle sang the song after ingesting some wine, some of the band members thought he was singing "in-a-gadda-da-vida". So it stayed that way.
