Familiar character actress Frances Sternhagen, who played the mother of postal worker Cliff Clavin on the TV series Cheers has passed away at the age of 93. :\'(

She was one of those familiar character actresses who many people may not recall her name, but they know her as “that gal… in that thing…”, the sign of a classic character actor. 8)

I am very sorry to hear this. I loved her in her recurring role as Willie Rae Johnson, mother of Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on "The Closer".
