Legendary Motown singer and founding member of The Marvelettes, Katherine Anderson has passed away at the age of 79 from congestive heart failure. :\'(

Back in the 60s, The Marvelettes were huge.
Anderson, Gladys Horton, Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart Motley and Georgia Dobbins founded the Marvelettes while schoolmates at Inkster High School in 1960. (Wanda Young replaced Dobbins soon after.) The group's original name was the Casinyets, as in "can't sing yet." ;D They were connected with Tamla Records, which became Motown, through a talent competition at school, which they did not win.
They dominated the charts with hits like
Please Mister Postman
Don’t Mess with Bill
I'm Gonna Hold On as Long as I Can
Here I Am, Baby
Someday, Someway
He's a Good Guy (Yes He Is)
And many, many more hits. 8)
Here’s a clip of Please Mister Postman. Back in the day when being a singer was not about acting like a bimbo.

Sad to hear this :\'( :\'( :\'(
Being a Motown fan, I appreciate the Marvelettes. They indeed were pioneers in the "girl group" genre. This is not a huge hit, but one I like:
