According to Genius, Feldman was at a soda shop (The Sweet Shoppe) and overheard this young girl's exchange, which then became this song. The label wanted to give it to The Shirelles, but Feldman insisted on The Angels and got them out of their contract. The song shot to no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. 2 on R&B.
Fun fact: Ronnie James Dio played the trumpet on the song. (Yes, really.)
Another fun fact: His son is Corey Feldman.

He also was producer for “Hang on Sloopy”, and he was one of the writers of Bow Wow Wow’s “I Want Candy”. 8)

Of course, “I Want Candy” was originally performed by the Strangeloves in 1965. BWW covered it c 1982.
