Subject: Bob Neuwirth, Kindred Soul to Gumbyfan… Gone at 82

Renowned musician and songwriter Bob Neuwirth, associate of luminaries such as Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin, has passed away at the age of 82. :\'(

Likely his best known composition was the hit single Mercedes Benz, sung by the late, great Janis Joplin. Indeed it was a timeless ode to panhandling. If he had written it in the 2000s, perhaps he would have asked The Almighty for an iPod. ;D
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends
So, oh, Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me
I wait for delivery each day until three
So, oh, Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me an Apple iPod?
I ask this sincerely, a good child of God
Don’t need fancy clothing, Don’t wear no Izod
So Lord, won’t you buy me an Apple iPod?

I saw Bob Neuwirth with Bob Dylan on the famed Rolling Thunder Review tour back in 1975. I also have a couple of his albums. There's one called "Back To The Front" that isn't much known, but it's got some excellent, laid back songs. He was a seminal, if somewhat "behind the scenes" figure in music and 1960s culture.

I thought so, too.
Mercedes Benz is a song that I sing all the time. I like to think that I do a half-way decent rendition of it. (BTW, LyricBoy, you forgot the last verse-Night on the Town. )

Oh, Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town?
I'm counting on you Lord, please don't let me down
Prove that you love me and buy the next round
Oh, Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town?
That’s it!

Are they related? I’m gonna guess not.
