Michael Nesmith, singer and guitarist with 1960s pop group The Monkees, has died at the age of 78.

Nesmith, from Texas, penned songs like Mary, Mary; Circle Sky; Listen to the Band; and The Girl I Knew Somewhere.
In a statement to US media, his family said he "passed away this morning in his home, surrounded by family, peacefully and of natural causes".

So sad. Loved the Monkees , they were fantastic .
Only Micky is left.

I was never a Monkees fan per se, but many of Nesmith's solo albums are fantastic and I have them. He was a very intelligent and philosophical man.

This passage from his memoir "Infinite Tuesday" is worth pondering:

“One continuously positive idea I’ve carried from my early years is an ever-expanding notion that the past does not create the present—that what seems set in perpetuity can be instantly changed. This was never an argument for randomness, but more of a sense of an eternal present that was constantly updating, revealing more and more of the moments that comprised infinite Life.”

I wonder who will receive his share of the family’s Liquid Paper fortune? ???

(His mother was the inventress of “White Out”, branded as Liquid Paper).  8)

Very sad, me too - I grew up watching the Monkees, loved the pre-fab four  :\'(  :\'(  :\'(

R.I.P. Mike Nesmith

So sad. He was the driving force behind MTV.

According to the article, he also wrote the song Different Drum which was Linda Ronstadt's first hit with the Stoned Ponies.

Mickey Dolenz already had solo dates planned well into January (some with Felix Cavilere of the Rascals) long before Nesmith died. I suppose they will become a tribute of sorts, since no doubt he was planning to promote his "Dolenz Sings Nesmith" album, recorded and released this past year before Nesmith died. You may not have been up on all this.
