Stomach cancer. He was in the group 1971-1976, a few years after their biggest hit, 1967's "A Whiter Shade of Pale."

I believe he performed on my fave Procol Harum tune, Conquistador (live)

Indeed.
He was not in on the original, which was done in 1967, but by 1971 when the Harum performed live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, he was slapping the bass. 8)
