Interesting piece on popular misconceptions about the song "Edelweiss":

I was saddened with the news of his passing, and have always like his roles in films. It was only this weekend I learned that is not him singing "Edelweiss" it was dubbed by Bill Lee of the singing group The Mellomen, he learned to play the guitar for his part, but the guitar were re-dubbed, and it was the last song that Oscar Hammerstein II wrote before his death on August 23, 1960.

Stephen John Fry the English actor, comedian and writer tells this story of his friend once played alongside him (Christopher Plummer) in a film and was asked not to mention "The Sound of Music" to him. Half-an-hour after Plummer entered the hotel and was playing Edelweiss on the piano.

*Going off topic for a bit.
I have a copy of the audiobook of Harry Potter read by Stephen Fry.
Also, the von Trapp family came to my neck of the woods after they left Austria. Some of the grandkids of Maria & the Baron still preform.

The link has an interesting family chronology.

That used to happen with John Lennon too. Interviewers would be instructed not to mention the Beatles to him, and ten minutes later he'd be regaling them with great Beatles stories. ;D
