Subject: Gregory Sierra Leaves the 12th Precinct Station

Legendary character actor Gregory Sierra, who played the role of Fred Sanfords' neighbor Julio Fuentes in Sanford and Son, and later portrayed New York City cop Miguel "Chano" Amanguale on Barney Miller, has passed away at the age of 83 from cancer. :\'(

In his heyday, Mr. Sierra was everywhere. He had big screen roles in Papillon, Beyond the Planet of the Apes, and The Towering Inferno. On the small screen he was seen in All in the Family, Hill Street Blues, and Fresh Prince. 8)
Of the Barney Miller cast, He joins Jack Soo (Yemana) Abe Vigoda (Fish), Steve Landesberg (Dietrich), Ron Carey (Levitt), Ron Glass (Harris), and James Gregory (Luger) on the other side of the grass.
Hal Linden (Barney) and Max Gail (Wojciehowicz) are still with us, but it is uncertain if they’d be willing to do a tribute episode of Barney. :-\\

Also of note: He played Lt. Rodriguez on the first season of Miami Vice. RIP, Amigo. :\'(

He was great on both Barney Miller and Sanford and Son - sad :\'( :\'( :\'(

That's right ! I had forgotten. That show was so mixed up and crazy.
