Gas was in prison, serving a 455 year :o sentence for various crimes. Initially he became a rat government witness and was placed into the witness protection program. But he then violated the terms of his agreement and was then given his 455-year sentence.
By his own admission, Gas murdered 36 people, but the G-men believe that he was responsible for dozens more.
Before he went to the slam, he ratted out informed on two NYPD cops who were working for the Mob, Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa. Both cops spent the rest of their lives in the slam thanks to Gaspipe.
Dude had his hands in a lot of pies, and he ultimately ratted out testified about everybody. It’s amazing that he was not executed in prison by other mobsters. ???
