Subject: Bad Week for the Cannonball
Written By: LyricBoy on 12/03/20 at 5:22 am
It’s been a bad week for fans of 1976 hit production The Gumball Rally and its copycat flick, The Cannonball Run, both films loosely based on an actual illicit cross-country race from Connecticut to California, The Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash. :\'(
First, Gumball director Chuck Bail bailed out at the age of 85.

Then actor Warren Berlinger, of Cannonball Run fame, took the checkered flag at the age of 83. :\'(

Back in ‘76 in the age of the nationwide 55 MPH speed limit, the American public was enraptured with the idea of racing on the public roads, and avoiding “Smokey the Bear” using their CB radios. ;D. Theatre fare of course catered to the fad, with flicks like the Cannonball movies and Convoy. 8)
